Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Planning on getting one soon and would like to see if anyone has some feedback on it? Which models are better, cost of film, advice on shooting etc.

    Thanks :)

A 400 speed film is usually recommended. Focusing is the main concern but you'll get the hang of it. Don't bother switching the sunny/cloudy switch as it doesn't actually change the aperture. Gunns have the 120N model in stock.

As Thefizz said, 400 speed film is usually recommended. Try get expired film, so you're not paying as much, quality really won't matter when you're using the Holga :)

If the 120N is the one with the hotshoe instead of the built in flash, I'd go for that, but some folk like the flash. I have/had a colour flash model too. It's alright, didn't use it that much tbh.

For shooting, just enjoy it, try out things you wouldn't normally and have fun with it :)

I have the 120n myself and I love it. I only regret not getting the one with the built in flash.

Buy a cheapo old flash and you're sorted.

In fact, buy a cheapo old flash and an off camera cord for even more fun. :)

Get some Fuji Provia 400 slide film, shoot in bright sunny conditions and then bring it to somewhere like Photocare on Middle Abbey Street and get it cross processed (slide or colour reversal film processed in the chemical for negative film, C41)

you'll get a really nice colour effect!

and also watch out for the parallax view - the viewfinder is not exactly what the lens is seeing. it's easy enough to compensate if you remember that the viewfinder is slighty above and to the left of the lens - so tilt your camera a tiny bit that way.

You can get a nice little flash with colour filters for like 12 euro delivered from china, my GF got me a 120N for xmas with a bunch of bits for it, can't wait to use it, buying from china the 120N cost around 20 euros

I picked up a Holga 120N (no flash) for just under 50 quid in Gunnes on Wexford Street a few days ago

it can be hard to get good results the first few rolls sometimes, but it's great fun! Definitely try cross processed provia, portra is another nice colour film to use, and neopan is my favourite b&w to use. Try out a few and see what you like! 400 film is perfect for this time of year, but in the summer I'll usually use 100 in bright outdoor conditions.
