I hear plenty of people on the TV saying TWENTY TEN for 2010... it sounds stupid... what's wrong with TWO THOUSAND AND TEN

Nobody went round saying TWENTY ZERO NINE (2009), it was TWO THOUSAND AND NINE

What will you call it? 111 votes

    2 thousand and 10

I never really caught on to calling this decade the naughties.

What did the people of the 1900 to 1909 call that decade.

Is anyone's granny or granda old enough to ask??

Twenty ten all the way. It's 3 syllables compared to 5 for two thousand and ten. What did you call 1999? Did you call it "one thousand nine hundred and ninety nine"? No? Thought not.

Leaving aside the fact that basing the calender around the sixth (and a quarter) birthday of a Palestinian asylum seeker is a bit odd Is the "our" bit not a tad presumptious ?

    Again.

Doesnt have the same ring to it but what about "Tonight in a rare display of collective cop on were going to stay in with a few cans because all the places in town are taking the pi$$ with their cover charges ?"

Because if I want to count why should I have to keep saying and? Its a waste of breath. And we need that breath, so we dont pass out from our enormous girth.

/honestly though I dont recall a Pat ever calling it Two Thousand and Six, Two Thousand and Five, etc.

Why, Four Score Seven years ago our fathers brought forth...

Twenty ten rolls off the tongue nicely, some nice alliteration and assonance going on there. In 1910 I'm sure the said "nineteen ten". :D

It's been overall a good decade lads.
