    Seriously if it's gotten to the point in this world where we feel we need to name a fcuking decade, then why not sell the rights?

    The COCA-COLA(tm)'s: we're loving it!!!

    Either that or cop the fcuk on and stop relying on such empty trivialities to complete our pathetic, Big-brother watching, Cheryl Cole worshipping little lives.

    The tens.

    Fairly certain that's what the 1910 - 1919 decade was called too.

    You are Completely wrong..........

    "The Noughties" refer to years where 0 or Nought preceeds another numeral in the last 2 digits of the year i.e. years less than ten and the decade from 00 - 09. This year (10) does not conform to this and therefore the Noughties are over and we have now entered an new decade which following on form the Noughties approach could be called
    Oneties
    Onezies
    Tenzies
    Tenties
    Dixies
    Decies

    etc etc etc....

    They're interchangeable. Sometimes I'd say twenty ten, other times two thousand and ten. I don't think about which one I'm saying, just whichever one comes out first.

    Twenty Ten, I'm lazy.

    Yes, your logic is sound from now there shall be 9 units per decade, we shall change 5000 years of mathematics to fit this hmmm.

    In reality the noughties were so called because of the duality of the meaning

    nought= zero
    naughty= Misbehaving

    Therefore the term 'the naughties' worked simply on both levels referring to the date and the social attitude at the time. I do not believe any of the below fit into this formula

    Oneties
    Onezies
    Tenzies
    Tenties
    Dixies
    Decies

    And unless I'm mistaken there is a zero (nought) in 10
    ;)

    Yes. That's how decades work.
    00 to 09
    10 to 19
    20 to 29 etc

    A caller into the Joe Duffy show this very day has proved what I and a few more learned souls have been saying on this thread. That is, the current decade does not end until next Dec, in the same way as we celebrated the coming of the millenium one year premature.. This was no ordinary caller either, he enterend the Young Scientist exhibition in 1999, and proved using simple mathematics that this is the case. So conclusive was his theorem that he picked up an award for his trouble. So to all the nay-sayers, stick that up your jumpers!! :D
