Out of interest, why did mockler claim his mountain bike was superior to a road bike? I'm a mtb commuter out of necessity but am well aware of the problems this brings.

@Tonto. If you do win, and consensus seems to think you will, will the win go on your palmares.

Unfortunately, I don't think the date, time or starting elevation will work for me! Which is a pity. Are there official checkpoints along the way? If we're around, that might work for us.

    Anyway, it's a bit of a useless 'race' ;)

Now 'how quickly can you safely transport two children or a week's worth of grocery shopping?'........ that's a useful test of man and machine.

Good luck to the good guys, etc.

    DFD.

Hard to say really. Depends on if we leave on time and how hard people go. I'd say maybe 2pm? But keep an eye on Boards as people might post mid-race.

As they saying goes the good die young

"In 1996, after a tour with the Lollapalooza music festival, the band played a farewell show and disbanded.[3] By a little more than eight years after the breakup, the band's three founding members—lead singer Joey Ramone, guitarist Johnny Ramone, and bassist Dee Dee Ramone—had all died."

In case I don't get the chance later - good luck to El Tonto and Mockler tomorrow - hope it's a classic. I look forward to reading about it and seeing the videos and photos.

On a completely partisan note, I hope El Tonto wins by a crippling margin and proves the old adage that age and experience will always beat youth and talent.

    bon courage!!!

Apart from his headlong, effervescent prose style, I'm not assuming mockler007 is over-endowed with talent. I'll reserve judgement until the result of this race is in.

OK, time for a roll call. Who's coming out in the morning? I should be there shortly before 12.

I've heard again from Mockler007. He says that he's a good sport and will of course be stopping at red lights. He also suggested that anyone else coming along make a donation to the SSF as well.

That route is far from the shortest, should it not just be Howth to Bray. Very difficult to police surely, reckon we would need at least one checkpoint around the area of Vico Road.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

Let's not over complicate it. We've both agree to use the same route.

surely once around the car park and everyone in for pints instead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭flickerx

    I like your thinking, poochiem.

But a stop in Bray along the coast (that route on Vico road hill is a pain in the hole) would be good. There is a decent couple of pubs there, a porterhouse I think, they will have food too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

I may be mistaken, but does the route send you the wrong way down a one way street on the Vico road?

Dont think so. Not to my memory when I did that route before. Although we may have gone some other way close to it, I dont really know that part of town at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭flickerx

You going to be there Raam? I intend on getting some fashion tips from you for my future road biking career. Maybe I'll even take some pics of you for the dublin streets blog.

I thought this bit was one-way, heading north

I shall be there, alas my winter gear is nowhere near as loud as my summer ensemble.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

I know that narrow bit alright. I had thought it was two way. Easy to bypass though if it is one-way, just head up to the very top of Killiney Hill and down the other side.

I left accidentally left my coolest winter gear in Spain.

No deviations from the route. Or are you thinking of cheating, Tonto?
