Can't see my location getting any showers but delighted for everyone in the North and West who are waking to Snow. I recorded a temp of -5.2c so I'm happy with that
nothing on the ground here in Clare but a hard frost.

whatever fell last night was very light.

I suspect maq's thermometer is very wrong and unreliable.
Even roches point is 0c at 9am...

Meanwhile just gone above zero here myself.
DP is -1.5 which tells me theres a maratime atlantic mix in this cold air or that dp would be much much lower.

It used to be accurate but I think you might be right, just had a peek outside and it feels a tad colder than 4c!

Time to invest in my own weather station I think.

    Not necesarraly.
    The flow is northwest.
Look upwind of colraine in that direction.
    You are on the coast?
Then Malin heads experience would be a good pointer.

I wish to Christ those proper showers to the north would move a bit closer. All they seem to be doing is just spinning around up there, doing nothing! :p

Just your average Atlantic sourced sunshine here in Galway. Temp +0.3c but the frost remains.

Well to put it in simple terms if it was 4c,you'd have no ice and no frost.
    Is that the case?

which is snow here (that is pathetic is bound to be snow up there how can it be rain)... very light but should help to lower temp and maybe cover melted snow, wish showers would hurry up and head south..... again will that snow reach us here if so is 20cm possible tonight?:D

Only a very light dusting here overnight, very frosty though. Serves me right for looking up DIY toboggan plans on google last night :D.

It seems the main shower activity is north of a line from Sligo to Meath and along the extreme western seaboard. Showers are dissipating before they get far inland. Some people may get lucky with a localised decent one.

We need the wind to pep up and that more organised band of heavy showers on the sat image to move down from the NW.

Who mentioned the possibility of a polar low forming?

according to someone on netweather in this setup a polar low is unlikely. pity because places that aren't getting any snow now would definitely get some. the other great thing about polar lows is you don't have to contend with the dreaded mild sectors that ruin everything.

Carndonagh which is not too far from letterkenny is also now reporting an above zero dewpoint which means if the air over malin head spreads, then they will have rain soon too.

Yes the centre of the low to the northeast of Scotland will transfer to just northeast of NI tonight.

what will that mean for the shower of activity? will the showers continue in the same regions or will other areas start seeing snow showers as a result?
