Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
I am a 1st year student photographer and I have a Canon 20D with an EF-S 17-85mm lens. The lens has decided to stop working (ERROR 99 problems), something to do with the contact between the lens and the body.I have no Guarantee so cannot return it or get it fixed. Would be too expensive to send off and get fixed anyways. It stopped working a few weeks ago & I have no other lenses and really need to get one for College. So does anyone here know where I may buy a cheap lens or 2nd hand lens for an okay price? any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks.

    Hi,

Have you tired using an eraser/rubber on the contact points of the lens? It may improve things.

Adverts.ie or Ebay woud be a good place to look for a 2nd hand lens.

if you are based in Dublin - I can let you borrow a lens for a while.

EDIT: I can clean the camera and lens for you if you want....(it might be trapped dust or skin cells from finger contact - can also clean the sensor while I'm at it)

cheap lens would be a 50mm f1.8 take a look at this post if time is a factor they probably have them in places like argos. if you cannot take up PCphotos generous offer.

I had the dreaded Error 99 message. I sent it back to Canon and it was a board issue which they replaced so don't automatically assume its the lens that is at fault.

Not an issue with it from then since.

EDIT: I forgot to add, have you tried using a different lens on it to test out??

50mm f/1.8 seconded, brilliant lens, good even on a crop body, cheap as chips and gets you off yer ar5e to perform the "zoom", in other words you zoom with your feet, not the lens :)
