Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Traditional chinese medicine vs ayurveda

    Hello all,
Just wondering what peoples opinions are on these two systems. I see a lot of value (and similarities in philosophy and principles) in both myself, I started out on ayurveda and gravitated over the years to chinese medicine as it generally made more sense to me in everyday life.

My issue with ayurveda is the catagorisation of people into a limited number of patterns as compared to chinese medicine in which the patient forms their own unique pattern rather that being slotted into a predefined one by a practitioner.

The underlying principle in chinese mdecine is that of yin and yang, that for every disparity one can identify in any characteristic you can further discriminate another set of opposites (ie: the yang within the yin and the yang within the yin) and this process is potentially infinte.

This aspect of chinese medicine makes sense to me in a most simplistic and elegant way, once I became familiar with the principle I found myself identifying these patterns in everyday life and it became something I perceive to be an inate truth of existance.

This seems to contradict the system in ayurveda quite drastically imo but I'm interested to hear what someone who's into ayurveda in particular thinks about this.

I know this may be slightly more suited to the nutrition forum but I don't think it would be well received there so maybe you guys will be interested! ;)

I can't help you answer your question but I would be interested to know more about the similarities/difference of the two as I've been reading a little on both.

You got to be careful. There was a report "DNA analysis of traditional Chinese medicines that were seized by Australian customs officials revealed that many contained plant ingredients in quantities and combinations that could have produced allergic or even toxic reactions among consumers." Here is the link to this interesting article http://www.ihafs.org/2012/04/dna-testing-finds-allergens-toxins-traditional-chinese-medicines/
