I failed the auditing and fa & t paper again and didn't even get the email from the icai about the change in the appeals process, so annoyed.

Going on Thursday in case they've anything interesting to say but certainly not paying for the course again.

Does anyone know anyone I could get auditing grinds off? Went from 46 to 34 this time round...........

DB, did you contact Sonya about the fee issue? It seems from reading the September form that the flat fee is the correct version but an official response would be good to have!

Also, did anyone get that letter from CAI about the revision courses that says no entries without payment will be accepted and courses are non refundable?? In other words, if you get the exam on appeal, then you're out the money you paid on the course - €300 in my case!! Eh no thanks, private grinds here I come! :D

I have just received a reply from Sonya. She confirmed that it was €450 flat fee

So I had to work late tonight (bloody half year)- any actual new information provided at the session this evening or just the usual spiel?

One of my friends did that group session last Saturday and she said that it was very good. Apparantly they really explained the old FAE Auditing course

Im thinking of signing up on this Saturday on the AGS website - is anyone else doing this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭backtothebooks

I failed the old FAE exams... and i was devastated. I hated the thoought of starting all the revision again

I got less study leave, double pressure and there i was, ready to start the revision again. My dad said to me "If you keep doing what you always do, you'll always get the same result" He was right so i decided to take a page out of the Multi-D syllabus and alter my strategy

I went to google and typed in Accountancy Grinds and i found the Accountancy Grind School. I couldnt stomach the idea of forking out €40per hour but i didnt want to fail the repeats and i HAD to do something different.

After my first one to one grind i reaslised that the grinds were worth every penny - i got a chance to get all my questions answered , no matter how stupid, and i even had free unlimited email support - thats something the ICAI wont even consider. The AGS actually gave me free exam notes and structured my folders - its not about memorising the material but its about finding all the material on the spot.

Im happy to say that i passed all 5 FAE subjects and now im exam qualifed, I can honestly say to all those that are repeating.. dont do what you did the other times.. change your strategy , get some grinds... if you want , ill send you all the notes that i have...it'll save you some money

I can't understand why you'd want to be signing up to grinds if you qualified two weeks ago?

    Odats, Auditing and in Dublin.

    Do u know of anyone????

    Thanks!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 767 ✭✭✭Odats

I know no one in Dublin unfortunately but if you could get hold of John Ryan's number from the Institute and ask if he does grinds you would be onto a good one. Had him for FAE Auditing and passed Auditing first time round (trained in tax no audit). Also ring your old college lecturers and see if they have someone. Your right about one on one it's the only way to get grinds.

Did anyone do the ICAI exams there at the weekend.

one questions that threw me in tax was as follows:
If X leases a premiese from the Landlord, and the landlord doesnt want to sell the property.

why is there no VAT arising on the lease assignment
what requirement arising for him or the tenant
    show the working?

Oh my god, 1/2% are you for real!!
There was a girl called viconia on here before and she knew of students getting pass these exams based on appeal, 4 marks are something for professional exams.

If you missed out by that much , you should have seriously considered the appeal process.

just doing the ICAI Revision course myself, wouldn't mind doing the CGS ones again, just as a refresher, but dont know if there doing them again.

Thats a very good idea taking Multi d again, did you decide to do it?

Yes, we were told @ work to steer well clear of that crowd. Apparantly it's someone seriously chancing his arm and those @ work who went to him for repeat CAP2 said he wan't very familiar with the course.

I am repeating the FA & Tax module. Got 48% the last time around and awaiting a re-check. Got 60% in the financial but only 38% in tax. Does anybody know if there are any revision courses for tax being ran by the ICAI or the CGS or is it just those lectures that are on the institute website? Has anybody heard back re the results of their appeals also?

    Hi All,

I hope everyone sitting in May got the desired result!

I have an unusual request, I was due to sit the exams in May but had to defer as my house was flooded and all my notes destroyed (proof can be provided on request). If anyone has Auditing and MABF notes/folders that they would be willing to lend/sell/give to me in advance of the final attept in Dec, I would be forever in your debt!

    Thanks in advance..

    Hi,

Does anyone have the last set of Old FAE notes and books for Auditing and FA/Tax?

I'd greatly appreciate this and promptly return in December.

    Thank you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 garfunkel

Yes - I have been very near % wise, but having to get 50% in each is really making it difficult for me, as I can usually do OK in MABF, but Audit always gets me! I have decided to take up MD again and just go for it!!! might as well

I attended the AGS yesterday, had a 3 hr session, it was just myself and the guy giving grinds,

I really did find it useful - At this stage I have gone through the course so many times I have to consider that is is my exam technique and study approach that is the problem,

We went through key areas, study technique and overall , it was time well spent, the information well presented, the guy knew his stuff and made the info interested (as far as Audit goes!!) and gave me relevant notes on ech area.

I missed the ICAI mocks so I will prob do one with AGS and hope to get some feedback on where I am going wrong -

big part of the next few months, lots of story - v little social live!!!!

    heres hoping its worth it

    Hi AnalogDrummer

I got a one to one grind in financial accounting and now i completely understand a lot more now than i did the first time.

ie, i know when the exam means when they ask for a disclosure note and not just a disclosure. I completely understand consolidations/goodwill etc

send me a PM and ill email you the notes but when i went to the accounting grind school website, i registered for free and also got some free notes.

I forgot to say that there was someone on this thread called viconia who offrered me grinds, dont know if she is still doing them. Dont know if she will have notes etc.

If anyone has knowledge of good grinds then it would be great if they posted them too. Some people are still looking, and if others think AGS was good then let others know as ppl are looking for help and are now confused?

    Cheers...

    Folks,

There were serious misgivings and abuse reports about this thread – I’m in work and don’t have time to fully review now. I’ll give a look later to get full understanding, but from what I currently know it’s unlikely the thread will reopen.
