If you want to save everyone read the following. This is what I did it may not work for others.
Have everyone loyal. Upgrade all the things that are needed to help from the collectors. I imagine you can get away without upgrading the amount of fuel/probes you can hold but I had them anyways. I choose legion to go through the ducts. Samara did the shield thing to protect me from those bugs. I choose Garrus as the squad leader both times. I used the doctor guy that speaks really quickly to go back with the crue. If you want the crew to survive, then activate legion, do his loyalty mission and then go do the final mission. If you wait around by doing side quests or searching planets then people will die. When I did it everyone died because I spent ages doing side quests.

Regarding your everyone loyal part of this -
i presume during the Jack/Miranda cat fight you had enough points to persuade one or the other thus keeping both super loyal - i didn't have enough (had like 85% para) so had to choose one - the other ended up dying in the final mission (same with tali/legion I presume)

I was 100% paragon at that stage so I didn't know you could make them disloyal like that.

That's pretty much exactly what I did (apart from I had Jack on shield duties). Managed it first time with everybody surviving

Has any one here been playing ME2 on below recommended specs? I'm looking to get a new laptop that can play games, but getting something with the specs for ME2 seems to be out of my price range.

For reference the 2 laptops I'm currently looking at are:
one with an Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 (2.13 GHz, dual-core), 4GB ram, and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M

and one with an Intel i7-720QM (1.6GHz, with turbo up to 2.8GHz), 4GB ram, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470

Any comments or advice would be much appreciated!

you are dumbass, its not even a spoiler you muppet...

idea: if you afraid of spoilers, wtf you do in here then? I came to ME2 thread to find out stuff, not to bury mine head in sand. And yeah i came here only after i finished me2.

So lets make a thread where you actually can talk about game, not freaking hide!

Just finished, here's what happened :D
I went straight after getting my crew back, so had no time to do Legion's loyalty mission. He was first to die :( Then Zaeed, who was leader of another team. Finally Mordin and Miranda must've died providing rear guard, had a brief scene of them both lying dead - miranda wasn't loyal because I sided with Jack. I decided to screw Cerberus and destroy the base.

For the final fight I picked Garrus and Grunt and am I right in thinking one can die in this battle? Watching a cutscene and really thought Grunt was about to bite the dust but we prevailed!

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

Are you referring to the bit where one slides down the platform and nearly falls off? You always save them...its just part of the cutscene.

They can die later though, after the explosion. You see them lying on the ground and help get debris off of them. They can die there.

I made all the right choices the first time through. Saved everyone. Didn't read any tips, just got it right. Was very pleased with myself. :) Had everyone loyal and all the upgrades. I had Jacob lead the other team. I took Samara and Miranda in my squad. I had Samara do the force shield. I sent Garrus back with the crew.

I made Legion go through the tech ducts....but mainly because I had a feeling that person chosen might die and didn't want to risk losing tali as I wanted her for the sequel. But he made it anyway so it was grand. Everyone made it.

Also, "I am the very model of a scientist Salarian......" :D

No need to be so abusive, Venom. You're the one reading a thread where most of the conversation at the moment is about everyone's endgame.

finished a second play through last night.
Lost Tali in the final mission, she died holding the door at the very end. Annoyed about it to be honest, I knew it would happen but it was still annoying. When i played the first time I kept her dad's secret, and got a message from some Quarian Admiral saying they had found stuff on the ship, and if i had told them about it they would have shared but now they wouldn't and I would regret it. Played it second time through and dobbed Tali's dad in, so lost her loyalty and STILL got the same message.

Will play it through a third time at some point, but I'll be waiting till we get some new DLC missions to spice the game up a little more.

Will look to save everyone on that play through, as I lost Zaeed in my first go.

I wouldn't worry about it tbh. Zaeed is very much a tertiary character. He doesn't have any direct dialogue or much backstory. I highly doubt he will be back in ME3 as anything other than an email or something similar.

Just after finishing all the loyalty missions there so gearing up to tackle the end of the game now. I want the achievement but I also want to be relatively spoiler free and make my own decisions on the final mission and accept the outcome so I'm reckoning I'll splinter off another save game before beginning then I can go finish the game as I would not knowing anything and let people live or die then go back to the save game to try crack the achievement.

Patch 1.01 is out for physical retails copies.

    http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/17253/Mass+Effect+2+Patch+1.01

Fixes some nice bugs, including one where you character is reset to level 1 if you press the wrong key during the mission complete screen, and uninstalling ME2 might take ME1 with it.

In my renegade playthrough, I think the bar was about 60% full at that point, I had the option to shout at both jack and miranda, and they both stayed loyal.

Keep in mind though, that while it will work for the achievement, that its your first go at it that is "saved" and kept for ME3.

I've 2.GHz dual-core, 4GB Ram and an 8600GT (the laptop one) and it's been smoooooooth. Actually works better than ME 1 did if I'm honest.

Loading screens are a bitch though. Get a good hard drive.

Yeah I have a dell studio 15 with 2.0GHz dual-core, 4GB Ram and i think a worse card in ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 but like other poster can also say it looks way better than ME1 - actually only turn down 1 or 2 things but very playable.

I had loading time issue too until i figured a way around it. Worst was going from level to level in your ship - could take anywhere from 30sec and 1min. My way around this after restarting machine I went straight into ME2 and hey presto load times are gone - down to about 5-10secs!!

Sounds good, thanks! I'll probably play ME1 first, so at least I'll be going from worse performance to better

Finished last night, loved every second of it! Jaw dropping stuff, and by the end i actually felt for my crew, ridiculous but awesome!

Some details of the first sunstantial bit of DLC have been released:

    http://www.eurogamer.net/gallery.php?game_id=10939&article_id=987703

Free to those with the Cerberus, 10euro to the everyone else on PC / Xbox. I can't say it has me enthralled, I'm guessing it's just 5 shooter missions on some planetary surfaces.

Even if they are not that great, for free I'm not complaining.

Finished a while ago, first time
All the squad survived but I spent time doing side misions after the crew kidnap so they got liquidised, I had to get my fish back back

    Reloaded an older save and
Did all the loyalty missions before the IFF so I could do legion mission before the kidnap then straight through the relay and all the crew, the squad an the fish lived to fight another day, as in the first go Miranda led both teams and legion went through the pipes, Jacob escorted the survivors back.

Just finished the game for the first time there, I couldn't import my character from the first game for some reason? So i started a new character.
Garrus was loyal to me, But he was killed by swarms? I don't know how it happened. Jack and Samara were left behind and died, As i had no loyalty for them, If i had brought them with me in the squad would they have survived?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,199 ✭✭✭Shryke

I don't think I've posted on this yet but I'll just throw up my thoughts now.

I've cleared it twice. It was epic. I want Mass Effect 3.

That's my review then. It was too good being bad to go the paragon route the second time, I actually ended up a lot meaner the second playthrough.
My whole crew survived both times even though the second playthrough Tali wasn't loyal. With every achievement in the bag and my playthroughs finished I'm left with a void.

For me, Mass Effect is climbing way up there with the best of the best. I haven't been into a game in the same way since Half Life probably.

Been playing this recently. There's lots that annoy me. For starters it's very much an on the rails games once you start a mission. You can't wander too far in any of the mission environments and it's stupid the way you can't really jump or climb over most surfaces. I played one side mission where I'd to crawl through the wreck of a ship that really showed the game's flaws.

Also the way every character has a loyalty mission gets a little repetitive. Surely, they could have thought of a better way to implement these missions rather than 'X needs to speak to you' about some problem they're having. The load times are still way too long.

These are all just minor complaints thought. The game does drag you in, the characters and plot are interesting and the combat is fun. The game is way way better than the first. Also some of the environments looks pretty cool. And it's pretty clever the way the three games link. It makes the game much more immersive.

    Any thoughts on the DLC?

  • Moderators Posts: 5,558 ✭✭✭Azza

The new firewalker DLC was average at best. Short and really easy, with a non exsistent plot. But hey at least it was free. Otherwise the DLC has been fine. Nothing too spectacular but its all been free.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,986 ✭✭✭Spazdarn

The new paid DLC should be good, new character to add to the mix... Not sure If it's worth the money though, you'll only get about 3 hours max out of it...

Somewhere around €5 for the PC, not sure about the cost in xbox points. I'd say it's worth it if you're playing through it from early on so you can actually use her beyond the loyalty mission.

Anyone else try it out? Kasumi seems like a pretty cool character, seemed to chatter quite a bit more than the others. The main problem is I've cleared the game twice this year already, and I don't want to play through again just to see what she has to say for herself. Sometime around mass effect 3's release, I'm gonna give it another go and not only let everyone die, but be generally a major ****. I'll get to appreciate the work they've put into her then, I'm sure.
