Election Debate; What's the point of this in NI?

Watching the news last night, I noticed they're having one for the 18 westminster seats for NI. What is going to be the modus operandi for this, i wonder? Unlike the debates in Britain, there's no opposition so all the main parties are 'in the tent' so to speak. It will leave us no wiser at the end since it will be the usual back and forth of mutual whataboutery, and if Diane Dodds is taking part, cotton wool will be required.
