Since we seem to have one of everything else of the decade, why not decide on your favourite goal of the decade, for whatever reason.

Ronaldinho v Chelsea, maybe not his most spectacular, but it just about sums him up.

Ronaldo v Porto, :eek: unlikely to ever be replicated.

Esteban Cambiasso v Serbia, greatest team goal of all time?

Zola v Norwich, nobody else could have executed it so perfectly and cheekily.

Would a better way of judging the real best goal of the decade to be to start a thread (even use this one) and post videos of goals individually, posters may thank the ones they think are best and then use the top 10 or whatever for a proper poll? Just an idea and I'm sure that way we would have goals in it scored from all over the world.

I like the Argentina goal - brilliant football. Barcelona scored one similar at Anfield, I think Overmars finished it off.

Zidane's goal in the CL final was also fantastic especially given the stature of the game and stage of the game - it was 0-0 at the time. I think that is why this goal deserves it.

Agree that I wouldn't consider a free-kick or a shot out of nothing to be anywhere near goal of the decade.

Sure it is but Alonso's goal was watched by millions. Reached a bigger audience. And still a great goal either way. First one that sprung to mind. After Gerrard's goal against Olympiakos and then Iniesta's against Chelsea last season. They would be my top three.

I thought about that, but it seemed like too much hassle. I can just compile all the votes and thanks for each posted here and make a poll in a week or so? I did leave it very open to other goals not listed too.

it's a thankless job coming up with a list for a poll like this anyway, because someone will always moan, but honestly, the utd bias, especially from the recent past, is painful.

the rooney one versus newcastle is easily the best of the utd ones, and is the only one of them imo worthy of a list like this.

I still think Ronaldo's free is far better than those two examples. Similar style, but they both were possibly saveable, whereas David James simply did not have a chance, it's rare for a free kick to travel into the net at that angle and speed, so close to the angle of the crossbar/post.

I think Scholes' goal is worthy of any great goals list too, not many players that can strike the ball as well.

The keeper's reaction mostly, he starts to go one way, then at the moment it hits the defender he changes direction, hardly a coincidence. Also, the way the ball is spinning changes. And the defender's reactions too.

What if the goal of the decade wasnt in one of those leagues and in fact never made it onto a television camera at all.
I spotted a guy on the U15 team here in Mervue score one of the best goals I've ever seen but sadly didnt have a camera at the time.
He managed to beat 5 players, lotsa stepovers, a couple of feints and pinged it up over his head to beat the final man and complete a scissors kick into the top right hand corner.
