Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

see the state of the pitch

    bloody hell

I can't believe it was so empty, practically nobody at it... Big turn up for the books there, malawi were 7/1 before the game...

Thy look tight at the back and are well organised, but they did seem to get a bit dodgier as the game went on... goalkeepers in Africa cannot deal with crosses either..

I think Ivory are a creative centre midfield player away from being from being a world class team!

Jes i don't know if they are that good. That said the standard of international football is funnily enough not brilliant and because of that they are capable of beating any team, on their day...

BF are not interested in playing, surely only a matter of time for Ivory Coast to score... Drogba playing a funny role, more involved and deeper in play than we are used to seeing.

From what I am seeing I cant see them threatening Brazil and Portugal to be honest.

Yea, Burkina Faso have played well in defense, well organised . I have been dissapointed with Ivory Coast.

Pitroipa is capable of creating a bit of magic, and Dagano only needs one chance. They still have a chance of nicking it on the counter.

what a miss from Kone, should be 1 nil ivory.

    god that noise is incessant.

Nice free kick from Burkina Faso.... and everything has opened up now.

I think the three team (two game) group has tightened up the game. Cote d'Ivoire play Ghana on Friday, their last game in the group. It will be a short tournament for one of the three sides.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭Bukman13

A draw here puts real pressure on the Ivory Coast for their game against Ghana. If they happen lose the Ghana match. and Ghana vs Burkina faso ends a draw, Ivory Coast are out.

Friday's match could be huge for both teams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,858 ✭✭✭glanman

very true... backed the draw at 4/5 with 75 gone, come on nobody:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

    Ivory Coast my arse!

They played rubbish to be honest.

Lets hope Essien's Ghana or Cameroon can give this tournament some credit cause the games so far have been far short of the level expected at a major international tournament. The state of the pitches has also been a disgrace especially if watching on Eurosport HD. So much for all the hype about African football.

    Great result for Burkina Faso.

1 more pt for them could see them go through!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,858 ✭✭✭glanman

how wasn;t that a free, and then ref blows 30 secs early... I;m happy, had 50 on them to win at HT at 1/2, covered it with the draw with 15 left at 4/5, had 50 on that too so actually nearly broke even

Tough game now against ghana, squeaky bum time for IC... if they do lose, nailed on ghana and BF will be a draw!!

Not surprised by ivory or algerias poor performances. The African expert from the guardian podcast said the world cup teams won't be taking it so seriously and he seems to be right so far. He said teams like Eygpt Mali and Tunisia will be the ones to challenge seriously!

can you post a link to that, could be worth a listen if betting on this...

Why aren't South Africa playing in this, and also in many of the recent years. I know about the restrictions due to the apartheid but why not recently?

I had just written out how Nigeria look so good going forward but horrendous at the back when that happened. I fancy Egypt will win this because of the Nigerian defense.

Just watched five minutes of the second game and its very clear that Benin are on a different level, no goals yet but I feel its going to be a very one sided contest.

Yea totally agree, They will cause Nigeria some problems too.

Midfielder Stéphane Sessegnon was in the Ligue 1 team of the year last year.

There is Irish representation too, in CB Boco plays who plays for Sligo Rovers.
