Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

basically a lunge with two feet off the ground. Ghana player was going nowhere. Could've broken the Ghana player's legs.

Cameroon currently 1 nil down against Zambia... If they lose they will be eliminated.

38min gone, Zambia should have just scored a 2nd

    FT

    Cameroon Scrape through.

Zambia looked in real control until the goalkeeper decided to dive over the ball from a weak 40yard Geremi shot.

Big match for Ghana today. They need to beat Burkina Faso or else they are out.

Burkina Faso only need a draw to secure a QF place against Angola.

    Currently 0-0 10mins gone.

Pitroipa having a stormer so far!!

6 out of 14 games had 4 goals or higher.

€481 from my initial €50 topped that up to €100 get in all 20 group games and still 6 to go.

So will be €100 and the total whatever it ends up at. Bit wary on betting on these last games as last nights 0-0 fiasco shows how it all go tits up.

happy enough with it this time tho :D

Hosts look like going out. 15mins left against Ghana.

    Ivory Coast and Angola out.

Ghana and Algeria into the semis.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,129 ✭✭✭therokerroar

    Ivory Coast knocked out

Just seen that they actually scored to make it 2-1 in the 89th minute and Algeria equalised and then got the winner in extra time.

This competition is as bent as **** and has little or no credibility IMO, it's more than just a coincedence all these strange sets of results and times that the goals are scored.

Did any of you watch the game?

Kolo Toure scored a good goal in the 122nd min, but it was ruled out for off-side. He was at least a yard on.

I think its just a case that most of the teams are tactically crap.

Egypt: El Hadari, Fathallah, Said, Gomaa, Fathi, Moawad, Abd Rabou, Hassan, Al Muhammadi, Zidan, Motaeb.

Cameroon: Kameni, Bedimo, Geremi, Nkoulou, Chedjou, Song, Eyong, Mandjeck, Emana, Eto'o, Idrissou.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

23 of the 53 goals scored in the group stage of the competition have been attributed to goalkeeping error!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,858 ✭✭✭glanman

Cameroon have not been impressive at all so far so I expect Egypt to win this, they are slight favourites with the bookies despite Cameroon being the highest ranked African team! Should be a decent game...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

Its Baffling how Egypt always win this thing when you look at the likes of Cameroon, Ghana and the Ivory Coast.

3 of the last 6 gone to Egypt.

They don't have as many playing in Europe so their players tend to take it far more seriously afaik.

Two goals in 4 minutes for Egypt at the start of extra time. 3-1.

Come on Egypt. Hold it together and Song could play against United at the weekend.

Cameroon down to 10. Looks like Egypt are heading to the final again.

This tournament has been a disgrace.

    Pitches in bits

    Goalkeepers taking bungs?

    Officials making dodgy calls

    Football of a poor standard

    Teams being shot at!

Did anyone see Egypts 3rd goal ?

The bloody thing didnt even go over the line !

African football is on the up ?

I was suprised to hear no pundits tipping egypt and some people were actually calling Egypts win against Nigeria a shock! (Ken Early shows his lack on knowledge)

Haven't seen any of this nations cup, but in the last one Egypt played like a proper team with decent players in each position. They have no stand out stars, but they can pass it around and work the opposition better than everyone else.

Sounds like a typical nations cup to be honest!

OK as it's the Fourth Biggest International Tournament in the World and contains about 10% of the premiership, I am surprised it has been ignored in favour of ranting QPR fans. Anyway two very tasty semi-finals on the way with Ghana v Nigeria (starts at 4pm today on the red button on BBC3) followed by the very tasty Egypt v Algeria (live on BBC3 7.30pm) part 3 with Egypt gunning (hopefully not literally) for revenge after Algeria dumped then out of the World Cup. Lots of side issues with Algeria having recovered form a poor start to KO favourites the Ivory Coast, whilst Egyptian international striker Mohammed Zidan(no relation) has already stoked the fire of this perennial rivalry between his country and Algeria, describing the game as "war" and saying The Pharaohs had to win it to confirm they deserve to be at the World Cup, and not Algeria.
"It will be a matter of life and death in that game. For both sides it will be like a war," said the Borrusia Dortmund star, could be a cracker.

I haven't watched as much of this year's as I did 2008s, but it's been a bit of an irritating tournament to watch.

Ignoring the Togo tragedy, and sticking to football, what really beggars belief is how bad some of the big teams can play.

About a third of that Ivorian team are Champions League players. The Algerians best player is probably someone like Mourad Meghni or Ziani who are well below that standard. And yet they managed a win.

You get the impression the bigger nations are just waiting for the World Cup and don't care that much, which is a real pity. The likes of Ghana, Cote D'Ivoire and Cameroon can be incredibly exciting to watch, seeing them feck about is fairly disappointing really.

    Also, what's with the keepers?
