Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We have a choice between smoked salmon & prawns on brown bread, duck liver pate or melon. I'll go for melon...leave lots of room for my main course nyom nyom nyom!

We never have starters, I'd be too full too. We always have dessert like trifle or profiteroles though, then Baileys coffees made in my frothy machine thing.

You all sound very posh. If I was going to do starters i'd be buying a handy carton of Avonmore soup. No smoked (raw) salmon for me, no way hose:o.

    prawn cocktail

Im doing the cooking this year and didn't know what to do, you dont want something to heavy as you dont want to spoil the main course.

Im edging towards a thin slice of brie cheese with wild mushrooms served on a cruton, about the diameter of a cup, with some knid of relish/chutney.

    Or smoked salmon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,220 ✭✭✭✭Loopy

I normally do smoked salmon and tiger prawns or veg soup but Im not cooking this year so haven't a clue what Im gonna get..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,635 ✭✭✭tribulus

I have always had either homemade soup, melon or caesar salad so this year I think it's someting different like bruschetta, yum.

Starter for christmas dinner? Pffft. It's far from starters I was reared.

Beer before dinner for me anyhow.

I'd be the same except for the Starters factory that opened down the end of our estate when I was 9.

Whats all this melon talk? Who eats melons for starters? Who actually eats melons anytime?

    Soup, obviously.

Asparagus wrapped in parma ham, baked, and served with butter melted with cayenne pepper. It's a lot of taste for very little effort.

Usually we have smoked salmon with brown bread. I don't really like it though so I just whip open the JD and have a glass of that.

Makes the dinner taste that extra bit special.

Fresh fruit cocktail with oranges, banaas, grapefruit, pears etc, followed up by some nice chicken things dad always makes. No idea what's in 'em, but they're lovely.

Everyone else has prawns and avocado, but I don't like that so I get paté and crackers.
    So much better.

Cauliflower & Broc soup, a sprinkle of fresh chives with a dollop of freshly whipped cream

Simple, fast but a great starter.

It was gonna be either melon, gravad lax, prawns or soup but in the end we decided to leave it off to make more room for the turkey extravaganza. Have to say I enjoyed my dinner much more this year as a result.

yugh! So many people saying soup, I couldn't think of anything worse!! SO filling, gross.

We had Prawns with avocado and rocket salad with a homemade honey and mustard dressing. So light and refreshing!
