its been rumoured in various rally forums for months, nothing new there, being a senator he's probably just heard about it.
lots of complaining about hotel price rises
rumours are organisers want to move it to the east coat

It’s being claimed that secret plans to move the pretigious Rally Ireland event away from the North West to the East of the country could result in Ireland losing the entire event.
That’s according to Sligo Fianna Fail Senator, Marc MacSharry.
Senator MacSharry said today he had accurate information from both national and international sources that Motorsport Ireland have been working on a submission to have the next Rally Ireland event based in Dublin.
He claims such a move could result in the country losing the event altogether, which would represent a loss of 50 million euro to the economy.
The North West has succesfully hosted the previous two Rally Ireland events in November, 2007 and in January of this year - the first time ever Ireland had hosted a leg of the World Rally Championship.
Senator MacSharry insists such a winning formula should not be changed.
    ;)

I think a lot of the time the financial claims made about these sort of events are total pie in the sky and are never challenged. The Donegal Rally in their press release every year claim millions in benefit to the local economy. I'm sure local hotels, petrol stations and restaurants do okay for the weekend, but any other business will tell you that most people stay away from Letterkenny that weekend because of congestion, anti-social behaviour etc.

Not too familiar with iPhones, but is there a cache on them? Could be proof that it really WAS 50 billion in the original article - not that I doubt you, I hasten to add :D
