Happy holidays to those who have volunteered their talents in 2009 and to those who are thinking about doing it in 2010. Sometimes all the effort put into volunteering isn't acknowledged as much as it should be although seeing the fruits of your efforts can be its own reward. It is important to realise that part of the strength of community is the voluntary helping hand that works to enhance the the lives of people. We can see the acute needs that come when volunteers in the emergency services are needed like during the recent flooding or the increasing need for support services for people affected by the economic downturn. In sport or health and welfare organisations people are selflessly volunteering to keep people active and healthy. Volunteers abroad are working to bring human dignity to the most vulnerable people on the planet and make the world a better place. You don't have to do it but you do it anyway. For all your efforts and the rock of support you help to provide the community, well done! A happy Christmas and a bright New Year to you and Yours!

3 voluntary members of St John Ambulance gave up their Christmas Morning to cover the Goal Mile in UCD.

Without them , the gent who collapsed with a cardiac arrest would not be alive today !

Well done to all involved ;)
