    Just home from visiting relatives who live in Glenanaar, Co Limerick (In the Ballyhouras). Car temp is showing minus 7.5..... Drove home at 15-20mph because the roads are like glass. Journey that usually takes me 20mins took me 40mins.

    Only place with an air temp above 0C on the NRA Road Conditions site is the Bray Bypass at 1.6C, even there the road temp is -1.6C.

    Christmas blessings to all from the frozen lands..where, thanks to Santa, disguised as my landlord, the wee house is now warm. The new Super Ser is working away and blissful at last to see the snow from a warm room.

    -9c now in Claremorris, Mullingrr and Ballyhaise - temperatures continue to plunger further East with -6C here in Kildare now:D

    PS: Milder air now malking inroads in Kerry and West Cork with synoptic station there reporting 5-6C

    Dread to think what the temperature up here is; clearly colder than yesterday as the whole water system is now frozen; no water at all.

    As a trivia question for the weather stats guys n gals - when was the last time we had such a huge variation in temperature across the island at the same time?

    -9 in some spots up to + 7 in the far southwest....

    Mullingar -10.0C
    Ballyhaise -9.5C
    Claremorris -8.9C
    St Angelo -8.6C

    I believe lowest official (Met Office sites) temperature in Ireland since Dec 2000

    NRA Elphin -11.1C as reported above there are a few others that are -10 and -9C
