Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've added the specs as an attachment, hope it can be seen:rolleyes:

    Update to this post:
I have gone through my receipts dating back a few years and now know what Graphics Card and Motherboard (and other stuff!) I used to have:

    Riva TNT 2 Graphics Card M64 - £30.00 - Bought 17/09/02
    Jetway 266b Motherboard - £69.00 - Bought 17/09/02
    Socket A Athlon Thunderbird Cooler with 1600xp athlon chip - £70.00 - Bought 17/09/02

All the above were bought in the UK hence the £'s.

I can't tell if the cooler is listed in the attached specs, not techie enough to read it properly:rolleyes:

Another worrying thing is I downloaded Driver Detective to see if I could update the Cirrus card driver in any way, and when I launched DD, it saw that my PC is an ASUS which is a model that PCGuy specialises in selling people (a brand I've never heard of in my life until friends showed me texts he's sending them defending his actions with their laptops), and it says my physical memory is 512MB but Local Disk(C): Properties shows me a capacity of 111GB???

    Mega confused:confused:

I've an old Gateway motherboard & cpu here if you'd like that (along with the video card)

    That's the board there
    http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/MSI/2513146/251314625.shtml

Would be better then the Pentium III board you have now.
    Let me know :)

Thanks The Edge, that would be great, I'm not sure how much better my stuff was compared to what PCGuy has now given me, but I'm inclined to believe the worst of him:rolleyes:

hi cardol, i finally got my hands on a decent card for you.

its a radeon x9600. quite a lot more powerful than what you originally had.

give me a call today and ill drop around.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 436 ✭✭cardol

    Thanks RoyalMarineComm, that's great news.:D

The Edge - if you've sent your card along with the motherboard and cpu, I can send you back the card if you like. You might come accross someone else in need!;)

also found 2 x 1gb sticks of ddr ram which should go into your motherboard without any problems.

from those screen shots, it appears ramzi only put 512mb ram back in instead of 1gb which you had originally.

anyway, ill put the gpu and the ram in today and it should help the computer run faster.

    @cardol

The card & motherboard hasn't left the job here yet (dels on Friday evenings) so I can get them back today. I'll find another home for them.
Glad to hear you'll be up and running soon. :)

    @RoyalMarineComm
Fair play to ye. Pity any stuff I have here is old hat.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 436 ✭✭cardol

RoyalMarineComm has just left after spending most of the day here and my PC is better than it ever was before PCGuy got his grubby mitts on it :)

I especially appreciated the crash course on the inner workings of my computer :)

Court date for PCGuy is Friday 29th February, will keep you all posted.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoyalMarine

glad we finally got this sorted.

i installed the new graphics card, no problem with drivers.
sound card was not installed either, got the driver through windows update.
    working perfectly now.

stuck in the 2gb of ram i had lying around at home, and the computer is flying now.

Hi Pickarooney, I hit "translate" on my Google toolbar so yes, I saw what the mouse was :)
I'll do a search online for a Logitech cos I like them the best.

Get rid of the google toolbar, it might seem like a nice fancy addon to Your browser, but its evil, really evil, it redirects every link You click through google.com (USA) so they can harvest the info on what You clicked, so even if You click an Irish webpage like www.boards.ie, You will be routed through the USA adding latency.

WOW i couldn't believe what i was reading here. that guy has to be put out of the computer repair business as fast as possible thats the worst story i have heard to date. it's good to see people here helping out. good luck with the courts he won't be doing that again thats for sure.

No, just slows down Your browsing while they spy on You, just uninstall it. Disabling it doesn't actually stop them spying on You, need to uninstall. Your browser should have a built in searchbar, set this to google

Court date has been delayed as PCGuy has not responded and is holding everything up. The District Court office has emailed me and said they will let me know what is happening as soon as they hear from him.
What I can't understand is why they insisted I get the summons in on time to give PCGuy 30 days notice in order to make the 26th Feburary sitting -
"Your claim is being dealt with in the normal course of events. A copy of same has been sent to the Respondent and we await a reply.

You will be advised in due course if (or not) a reply is received and
what the next step is in the claim procedure.

You will not be required to attend Court on the 26th Feb 2010 as the
matter will not be listed on that day. You will be advised in plenty
of time if or when your claim is listed for Court hearing. All
efforts must first be made to settle the matter out of Court.

Please be aware that the Small Claim Procedure does not guarantee
instant results and that claims may take some considerable time to
    progress and settle."

well it will guarantee instant results. he is in the wrong and you will win no problem.

Cheers Zenno, I just hoped all this would be over by the end of the month.:( Mainly because I'd like to delete PCGuy's name from my phone. I'm keeping it for the moment incase he calls to settle out of court, I want advance warning so I can inject a suitably sarcastic tone to my voice!:D

    ha sounds like fun :p

Just to make a small comment, i didnt mind helping out as much as i did, but if needed as a witness in court, im hoping to avoid that if possible!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 436 ✭✭cardol

Don't worry RMC, I don't think he'll be bringing any witnesses either since all the ones he threatened us with said no when they found out he'd volunteered their services. :D

Just wanting to jump in here as well on this one. According to Mircosoft Licensing rules if the PcGuy in Clonmel swapped the motherboard and keep the original license he has violated the licensing laws.

I would prob report him to Microsoft for breach of compliance.

Basically the way it works if you have an oem license it is licensed to the motherboard.. If the motherboard has been replaced rather than repaired. And the license was moved onto the new board or the temp board giving to you he has violated the licensing rules.

PM me if you want any further details on this..

But to be honest it the kind of practice that this PCguy has been doing just gives all the rest of us IT people a bad name.. Scum of the earth.. And to be honest he is not the only one out there doing this sort of thing.

Got a very garbled text from PCGuy this morning threatening me with his "lawyer" and accusing me of slander because of my blogs. Obviously, he's finding the truth very hard to take. Apparently, he is "still being nice to me, even though I don't deserve it". I'm humbled!

Sounds like he is one stubborn dude. If he is going to stay the course with this, as it sounds like he is, (and if you are determined to pursue it) i would be careful to record dates, times, exact details of all communications and visits by him to your home and by you to his shop. I also wouldnt post anything he says in calls/texts. Just to be aware that if he is as devious as he sounds he could claim all sorts of things against you including harassment. Sounds ridiculous but ive seen such gangsters (a mechanic) end up getting compo off decent people for botched car repairs when they were pursued the wrong way by the car owner.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 436 ✭✭cardol

I am storing his texts on my PC using Nokia PC Suite and also printing them out, but I won't be posting them up on any threads or my blogs for the exact reason you mention. I'm not even changing the spelling and grammar on his texts as I want the printouts to be as accurate as the originals he's sending me. I'm also keeeping the originals in a folder on my phone.
I don't name him on this thread but I do name him in my blogs and as far as I am aware, I am recording the facts (I have the paperwork and receipts to prove it) so he cannot really accuse me of slander.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,002 ✭✭✭Komplett-Tech: Ryan

You are indeed correct. You are 100% within your rights to publically keep records of your ongoing ordeal as long as none of the information is changed or portrayed in a way that could be considered slanderous towards the accused. Since i work for a very large retailer, I am privy to a lot of the consumer laws that most people have never heard of. If there is anything I can help you with, please drop me a PM and I will do my utmost to help.

Also, please note, the help I am offering is from myself. And not the company to which i am attached!

I was called to the District Court building here in Clonmel last week and have been told that PCGuy failed to respond to the summons from the DC outlining my claims against him. The DC has taken this as an admission of compliance and are now going to serve him a court order to reimburse me in full.:)

TY The Edge, he is now to be ordered by a judge to reimburse me and if he doesn't, this little episode will be a permanent blot on his record. Hopefully that means that if he runs from Clonmel, this will follow him.

Although I have to say, I have little faith in the cops apprehending him elsewhere should he do the same thing again. Despite his (soon to be aquired, perhaps?) record.

Sounds like a good result, but I'd be wary all the same of using the text "XXX is a fraud and a thief" as the sub-heading of your blog. Although the fraud and theft can be proven, this wording may just be crossing the line into defamation.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 436 ✭✭cardol

Thanks Pickarooney, I wasn't aware of that. Does anyone know if I am actually crossing the line. I feel very strongly that I do want to name and shame this person.

Have taken the advice here and changed the sub-heading slightly. It still flags up an alert and the blog body describes the details. But because he has been ordered to reimburse me, my blog title could not be construed as inaccurate.

PCGuy has decided to ignore the order by the judge to reimburse me for all the damage he did to my computer and the costs I had to incur getting it fixed. I have now decided to take this all the way to the District Court and he will just have to live with whatever bad publicity that generates.

well fair play to you for sticking with this. alot of people would have not bothered. if more people done what you are doing there would be less dodgy dealings in this country. good luck with this and i hope you get well compensated for your troubles.

PCGuy decided to ignore the Decree from the local judge, so today I gained the services of the County Sherriff, who will call on PCGuy and demand the monies owed to me. Failing that, PCGuy's assets will be under threat. I, for one, am looking forward to the day he loses his business and his livlihood.
The saying "Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned" springs to mind, and in the 21st century, treating women as simpletons amounts to scorn.
PCGuy thinks I will fold, but he could not be more wrong!

TBH I'm getting very fed up with following this, but I promised myself I wouldn't quit (I'd give up alcohol but I'm no quitter) and I've had so much support on boards.ie that giving up would feel like I was copping out!

Great stuff! My thread begins at Post#8 onwards, but Post#66 only from Maximus Laggus is related to the original thread called Missing Memory.

I've got a few titles in mind but not sure what is allowed on boards.ie:

    Computer Repairs in Clonmel
    Computer Fraud in Clonmel
    Dodgy Computer Repair Shop

Are any of the above to detailed. The part about Clonmel could be removed from the title but maybe it's OK?

If it's moved to it's own thread, will people here still be able to find it?
