Does anyone know if there's any sort of agreement between artists and EP not to announce other tour dates in Ireland until EP is over?

This will be my 1st year, that description of yours is the main draw for me, that and the scarcity of scum. I think it's worth the €240 for that alone.

    My must sees are:

    Leftfield
    Seasick Steve
    Bloody Beetroots
    Hot Chip
    Laurent Garnier
    Jack Beats

I've seen Hot Chip live a few times and have never been impressed with them. Just didn't seem to get their live thing right at all.

THEN I saw them a few weeks ago at Sonar in Barcelona. And they nailed it. The new album gives them an extra punch. Really looking forward to seeing them again now! Roll on September.

Mr. Dineen always puts on a good show at the Picnic.

absolutely - never miss him. And he sometimes does a secret unannounced gig in another part of the festival towards the end of the night.

Apparently there is going to be new announcements this afternoon or evening, should be interesting. Will this be a decisive clincher of a headliner or 2nd or 3rd billing announcement to push more tickets. Me hopes maybe Aphex Twin and some other dance stuff.

    From irishtimes.com:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/blogs/ontherecord/2010/08/04/janelle-monae-to-play-electric-picnic

News just in: Janelle Monae plays the Electric Picnic in September. Yep, that’s Janelle Freaking Monae, the lady behind one of the albums of the year, a striking live performer and the sharpest android on the pop block right now. Is this a tipping point for EP 2010 ticket sales I see before me?

UPDATE: Also added to the bill today:

    Mountain Man
    Freelance Whales
    Duke Special
    Neon Indian
    Dennis Alcapone & the Dubcats
    Hurts
    Delta Maid
    O Emperor
    Joe Echo
    Vengeance & the Panther Queen

Main Stage usually finishes at about 1.30/2am but smaller "unofficial" stages can go on until 4am

I was about to say the same thing for Krafty Kuts. Saw him at the same location 2 years ago but place is jammed with posers to be honest. That's the problem with the Bacardi tent, tis not really for the music, just for people to cram in and drink some over-priced Bacardi. It was the place with the least EP feel to it.

Get there early to get a good spot. If at all possible arrive with your friends so you're camping together, as the day goes on it gets harder and harder to keep a spot.

Try to camp away from the main thoroughfares in the camp sites and away from the toilets too.

    Have fun.

Thanx Jeff. Exactly the advice I needed. Anything else in the line of essential items you should bring etc.

I swear by bringing bin bags, so many uses-dirty clothes, sit on them if its mucky, wear them if its lashing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭H8GHOTI

Camping in the campsites near the main arena is like this:
    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSR38vtj3Sy1bYOdEo11pHArljk9ivwR0w4FMk2Lz1fT7Jv-2M&t=1&usg=__V8Dsv2P5ZHYmRKA3W_pL0IRNpYo=images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTWTHJhMZxmGCh6OZ9j_L0y7hkUzpjIeLJOCOTI5xxm-uDMuhI&t=1&usg=__NB-UwOn2FxcRh9WxKLxgbZcMbaE=

If you'd like a bit more space, camp further away from the main arena. Downside to that is the walk to the arena is longer. The maps should be up on the website soon. The week before the festival, I think. If you don't mind camping that close to other tents, follow Jeffs advice & you'll be grand.

Not essential, but for comfort bring a inflatable mattress. You'll need a pump to blow it up. There's a battery operated pump included with this one:

To see inside the tent at night bring a lantern like this:

There's other suggestions & lists of stuff to bring here:

    Hey all,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has ever volunteered with Amnesty International at the festival or happen to know what they do there? Few of my mates are volunteering there this year with them and I'm gonna catch up with when they're free but I'd heard they ran a bingo tent or something one year?

Also wondering what the craic is with bringing alcohol into the main areas. I hear cans will most likely be taken off you but can you bring plastic bottles in with you from the camp site or do they literally take any drink they find? Or is the plastic bottle ok but they take the cork off them? Not sure if it's just drinking in the campsite that's allowed and people just get lucky bringing it in with them to the main places?

    Thanks!

    Hey,
I've applied to volunteer this year and am just wondering what are peoples previous experiences?
I'm not with Body and Soul, I got it with EP themselves.
From what i can gather we have to work more hours than they do.
Also, are you allowed to camp in the general campsites or do you have to camp int he assigned volunteers campsite?
Would i be better off just buying a ticket or trying to find paid work at the bar??
    Any advice/views would be appreciated.
    Thanks :D

I did it once before, I camped with the workers, but you can camp in the general campsites as far as I remember. I had a blast, and I'd totally recommend it, completely different experience of the festival. The folks you work with, and for, are great.

and standard plastic bags. pack each change of clothes separately and wrap in a plastic bag, two if feeling decadent!!!

Yeah, I volunteered at castleplaooza last weekend and thought it was brillant.
However, only had to work 12 hours and was allowed to do it straight to get it all over with and enjoy the weekend!

Seen on this page on the official site, that tickets will be available at the festival. For them to put that on that page, I'd think there's loads of tickets left.
Also, got an email yesterday saying that there's 10% off myhabs now. Reduced to €300 for the weekend. They must be struggling to sell them as well.
Actually, I don't think any of the boutique camping companies have sold out.
