    Hi guys,

Got my first pet this year - a terrapin! Its class but I want to make sure I have everything right.
The tank is 16in long, 12in wide and 10in tall. Its filled up 1/3rd of the way with water. I have stones in the tank also for the terrapin.
Also I have a heater to keep it at 26 degrees and a filter. Does this sound ok? I want to make sure the little guy is gona be ok.

There's another thread on Terrapins on the first page of this forum.
Be advised they grow to the size of a dinner plate so a 16 inch tank is not going to be big enough for long.

you will need an ultraviolet light - this simulates natural sunlight, these come as a tube shaped bulb or as a screw in. the tube shape are cheaper, but you need unit to place them in, similar to what is used on a aquarium.

you will also need an area where the terrapin can get out and completely dry off.
and a basking lamp above this that reaches is around 35 to 40 degrees.

you can get a turtle dock the floats - it attaches to the side of the tank with suction cups, but these are only OK for a while, as they grow quite big fast.

be prepared to upgrade to a bigger set up soon.

    good luck with your terrapin.

Its a yellow bellied slider I think. He's a bit shy but from reading online that goes pretty quickly. I just want to make sure Im feeding him enough because if you go near the tank he gets a little freaked out.
