Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Which camera & where to buy?

I am planning on buying my first SLR camera over the next few days. I haven't fully decided on whether to go for the Sony A330, Canon 450D or Canon 500D.

I'm in the North for the next few days and there seems to be pretty good value up here (Jessops & Argos). However, I'm wondering if I'd be better off buying locally in Dublin in case I have a problem with the camera or need advice in the future.

I've been looking at a few websites and these are the prices I've found:
    - Sony A330 with 18 = £400 (+ £60 cash back) in Jessops
    - Canon 450D + 18-55mm IS Lens & Bag = £479 (+ £30 cash back) in Jessops
    - Canon 450D + 18-55mm Lens, 2GB SD card, case & half-day course = €600 (+ €35 cash back) in Conns Camera
    - Canon 450D + 18-55mm IS Lens, 2GB SD card, case & half-day course = €650 (+ €35 cash back) in Conns Camera
    - Canon 500D + 18-55mm IS Lens = £580 (+£50 cash back) in Argos UK

Would you have any thoughts as to where I should buy from and which camera would suit best for an absolute beginner? I'm mainly interested in taking scenery and portrait shots.
