Nice contradiction. I actually am not bashing them at all, just find it amusing how carried away some people get.

how is it a contradiction? ffs.

we should be beating Wolves, so it shouldn't have been so important, but we weren't. we needed a goal, badly, and Gerrard got it.

it's a big goal within the context of this game.

people are entitled to celebrate a goal, and anyone saying 'we're back' is more than likely taking the p*ss big time.

no sane fan thinks this proves we're back to being any sort of threat this season yet.

So tell what a small goal is then please as I can't make sense of what you're saying?

Say we'd been winning games and having a great season. A nil all draw tonight would just be a disappointing blip and would be reported as so.

But the way things have been going, can you imagine the abuse a draw at home to ten man Wolves would gather. The extra pressure that would put on top of everything. We lost our last two games, including out last one at home.

We need to start climbing the table and this looked like it was heading for a disspiriting draw. Instead, it looks like a huge three points!!!

we're going through a rotten patch.

we're entitled to celebrate anything we can get our hands on.

    seriously, ffs.

The context of the game, is Liverpool at Anfield against a ten man Wolves. It's now 2 nil, how big a goal could it have been realistically? If that's what you call a big goal, I don't know what you would call a small goal.

The contradiction was saying who cares if it's Wolves, when playing Wolves IS the context of the game.

Can't believe the number of people who seem to have joined this thread specifically to make endless bitchy remarks about Liverpool.

I thought Gerrard looked a lot more interested today than of late. Aquilani's been promising, has misplaced a few passes but probably partly down to the monsoon conditions. Lucas has been good mostly but still gives a few stupid fouls away every game.

    Yay, Pacheco coming on.

10mins for pacheco and a clean sheet please.

Pacheco getting ready, thanks Rafa :)

Gerrard and Lucas in CM with Pacheco playing between the lines.

No they didn't, that's exactly my point. Gibson scored against a weakened Wolves at Old Trafford, it's a nothing goal, but when Gerrard does the same at Anfield....

I don't necessarily think "big" is the best way to describe it. It's not big like some of the goals Gerrard has scored in CL games and Cup finals etc.

But it's still an important goal considering our struggles this season

Probably the fact that it's now two nil and not nil all.

No goal is a nothing goal.

But if you look at the context, in light of our struggles this season and the gravity of the consequences of failing to qualify for the CL for LFC it's understandable that Gerrard putting us ahead in any game is seen as being particularly significant.

Well if that's the case he'll have to score quite a few more "big" goals in the coming games. In fact, I reckon you'll find it hard to differentiate these big ones from the regular ones!

Not great, to be honest. We kind of dug out the win. Defense was all over the place at times when Wolves attaxked!

Although, we gained confidence from going one nil up and played better after that compared to the way we've usually been this season after going one up!!!!

Pretty poor tbh but none of the big four have been outstanding this season have they.

Someone didn't get what they wanted from Santa. Maybe next year ;)

Anyway...I really like the look of Pacheo...hope to see a lot more of him.

its ten more than the team that faced United

That's because in all fairness with the way Liverpool are playing atm, McCarthy probably thought they could snatch a point at Anfield.

Refereeing has been poor tonight, too inconsistent.

Good result for Liverpool considering the situation they find themselves in now, but this game isn't a season turner. I don't think any Liverpool fan will fall for that.

I mean, there is no point in judging Aquliani (sp?) now. He hasn't played enough, his little tricks have been good, but he just isn't "there" with the Premiership yet.

Too many Liverpool players look disinterested. Torres whining all day.

Benitez can't change a result, but he can change how the players go about their game. Clearly he isn't doing that and I have seen nothing today to show he is restoring any confidence in the squad.

He has a near full strength squad now, no excuses with injuries.

Even Gerrard, looks like he doesn't want to be on the pitch.

I think it's time for a change, but what would I know, I'm a United fan...

Still a win is a win, as you say may boost the confidence of the players.

slightly fortunate given the sending off, but that'll do.
