Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looks like Vierra is moving to city anyway. Having medical this afternoon. 18 month contract.

That's a kick in the balls, can't imagine him being in any other EPL jersey apart from The Arsenal's. :(

he is no better than what they have for that role imo not these days anyway. Kompany, Barry, De Jong, waste of money just on his wages with those boys at the club, but then again they do have it to waste.

Micheal Johnson seems like the forgotten man there these days too, anyone know what his injuries are like atm?

Not forgotten by any means. He was just coming back into the team after a year out but snapped a cruciate in training just before Christmas. Terrible shame cause he's a serious talent.

Vieira is a really uninspiring and unnecessary signing. Very disappointing if it goes through.

This from the special one. You just have to love Jose when it comes to stuff like this.

Mourinho told Sky Italia: 'Patrick will say goodbye to us.

'He will surely miss us. I don't know where he will go. The club thought not to turn down his request to leave. This would have been the last year of his contract. Where he will go? I said I don't know. In my opinion he will go to England, even if there is the possibility also he could go to France.'

    'I wish him every happiness.'
And now talk Makele could join Vierra at city too

Vierra joining City makes absolutely no sense from a footballing point of view.

He was some player in his day. Was terrific against us in the 2001 cup final. Assume Mancini would have seen a bit of him from last year to make a sound judgement on him. and another story had veron linked to city as well

What you just said there was, he was terrific 9 years ago. Times change.

That Veron story is bollix. Obviously someone has seen that him and Mancini are Samp old boys and put two and two together and got five.

Plus Veron hated living in Manchester so not a chance it would happen.

Is there a pattern emerging. Is Mancini adopting the "better the devil you know approach" by dipping into the Italian league. Assume he would have his eye on a few players from his time spent there. maybe he is looking for a few wise heads to balance the team out a bit in terms of experience

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,300 ✭✭✭✭Seaneh

The Vierra story is true, he'll be a city player by the end of the transfer window, either city of Barca, and he still has a lot to offer either team.

Of course he's going to be looking at players fro the Italian league to improve his team, it's what he knows best and there's a pattern of managers doing that Wenger, Mourinho, Benitez. With the money City have, there's no need to be limited to the Italian league though!

Surely he'd only be any good to Barca for the month of January, while Toure is away?

James Richardson was talking about Mutu on the podcast this week. Says the club just want rid. Very strange considering they're still heavily involved in Europe.

He's not been the same since the court case came down and with Jovetic they don't need him like they used to

Emerging? No! Started as far back as '97 and possibly before!!! Foreign managers tend to buy players they know...funnily enough!

Cant believe Chelsea were that aggressive over the court case. Leaves a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth to be honest.

The Mirror & Marca reporting that the Maxi Rodriguez deal to Liverpool is done. 18mth deal. £1.5m. absolute bargain price if true.

Wonder what his wages will be like. 18 months i think a good time for himself to prove himself. And given the goal he scored against us at anfield he looks a decent prospect.
to add Dosena has landed in Italy

Rubin Kazan Defender Cristian Ansaldi Set To Join Manchester City

The versatile defender is seemingly on his way to Eastlands...

According to a report in Russian newspaper Sport Express, Premier League outfit Manchester City have reached an agreement with Rubin Kazan over the transfer of full-back Cristian Ansaldi.

The Argentinian international impressed during Rubin's Champions League campaign and has since been continually linked with a move away from the Russian champions.

The report claims that the Citizens will pay Rubin a fee of €4.5 million to secure the services of the 23-year-old defender. However, Ansaldi has yet to agree personal terms with City.

Ansaldi joined Rubin Kazan from Newell's Old Boys in January 2008 and has since helped the Russian club to two consecutive league titles. He has made well over 50 appearances for the Europa League hopefuls.

Interesting stuff. Would add some good depth.

    http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/32157/Wenger_uses_contact_to_unearth_new_Adebayor.aspx
According to reports in Romania, Arsenal could move for FC Cluj striker Lacina Traore after scouts reportedly watched the 6ft 6inch striker impress on both domestic and European fronts for his current owners.

The 19-year-old, a graduate of Jean-Marc Guillou’s Academie de Sol Beni in the Ivory Coast, made the switch to his current surroundings in 2008 before helping Cluj to both the Romanian Cup and Super Cup last year.

It is thought that Arsene Wenger has been alerted to the player’s qualities through his link with Guillou, the man responsible for giving the Gunners coach his first big break in coaching at Cannes in the early ‘80s.

The two men have since worked closely together giving opportunities to several players from Africa, with the likes of Kolo Toure and his younger brother both making their way to Arsenal; the latter taking on a trial in north London before playing for clubs in France, Ukraine, Greece and reigning European champions and the former making himself a fan favourite at Highbury and the Emirates with his swashbuckling defensive style.

In an interview in the Romanian press, Traore described being linked with Arsenal as "sensational" and stressed "it would be a dream" to play for the prestigious English club.

Speaking about possible contact with Arsene Wenger, CFR Cluj president Iuliu Muresan confirmed:

"We have been in contact with Arsenal, but have not received any concrete offer. Four million euros is the fee we are looking for."

Rated by scouts in Romania as a huge talent Traore has been labeled the ‘new Adebayor’ due to his height, trickery and decent pace.

and not the type of curse where he gets a Champions League medal.

Lacina Traoré's alright in teh new Football Manager. :o

I'm interested in teh Vieira transfer. De Jong's a much better player these days. Really really hope he gets pissed off and signs for United. (Allow me my dreams. :pac:)

Indeed. You'd have to imagine De Jong, Gaz Baz or Ireland will be missing game time now which could be interesting...

I'm not 100% convinced by Stephen Ireland yet, I think he's still got some improving to do (and I think he'll do it) but the latter two especially have a similar role to Vieira and are much much better in modern times. Surely it's a pointless signing?

as revealed on these pages earlier this morning Vierra en route to city for medical. What chances he features in Manchester derby in Carling Cup.
