Heres a great brown bread recipe I picked up recently... its great for the sub zero temperatures, and could save you having to have to risk your life to get to the shops, (although I hear its thawing at the moment)

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees

    Dry Ingredients
    > 2 cups whole wheat flour
    > 1 cup all purpose flour
    >1 Level teaspoon baking soda
    >1 Level teaspoon baking powder
    > 2 Tablespoons oatmeal
    >2 Tablespoons wheatgerm
    >1 Tablespoon cream of wheat (I use oatbran)

(sometimes I add more oatmeal, 4 tbl spoons)

    Mix the dry ingredients together

    Wet ingredients

    >1 egg
    >2 cups buttermilk (or ordinary milk with drop of vinegar)

beat the egg, then add the milk

Grease the bread tin and sprinkle with oatmeal. Pour the mixture into the tin. Sprinkle some more oatmeal ontop.
cook for 55-60 minutes... until golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack.

    hey presto
