    4/2 in Dublin Airport now.

We need that to hit 3/0 and then we will start getting some interesting reports.

Good few hours till that though i would think.

Dew point looks like sticking to around 0.5c i reckon and then lowering to subzero during decent precip.

Its a 1c game today folks.;)

Weather...have those 850 hPa temps starting dropping so?

Cheers for that link Su. Will study in detail to get the aul gist of things. Are TAF's freely available? if so, where could I get the one for Galway and Knock? Cheers for your patience. :)

They are freely available for the main airports in Ireland (Dublin, Shannon, Cork, Knock) but the rest are only available from Met Éireann's Aviation Briefing service http://briefing.met.ie (registration required, has to be authorised by them manually)

You can get your decoded METARs and TAFs here http://ows.public.sembach.af.mil/index.cfm?section=ObTAF

    This was expected.

Nobody around Dublin apart from the mountains should expect any snow until at least 8pm. As said constantly throughout the thread.

Midland areas and Wicklow mountains may start seeing some before that.

Weathercheck what's your feeling for cork now? How's it lookin? Prob won't stick if it does snow now anyway?

In Lacken, Co. Wicklow amount of sleet in the rain is starting to pick up over the last 5 minutes. Love these weather forums first time posting in them but have to say the regular posters here are a lot more over the weather than any other source. Keep it up guys :D

Aye, keep us informed. What are the temps/dewpoint currently?

Are you in the hills around North Kilkenny? Castlecomer plateau?

Not much falling here in terms of rain or sleet, no snow yet.

I intend to get a weather station sometime but the thermometer I have out says 2.4C but I question how really accurate it is. Nothing to measure dewpoints.
I'm in the hills on the Castlecomer plateaux about 5 miles north of the city as the bird flies.

Last week the temperature difference between the city and where I am according to the car was around 2 degrees, cooler on the hills, just need to get a proper weather station sometime.

it just remains overcast here and feels raw in the stiff north easterly breeze

I think by time the temperature and dew point drop enough in Cork, the precip band will have moved by us.

Wow, cheers Su! A lot of info there. Nice one! Cheers to SC and BB as well for links and info. :)

Rain just starting here and so far, no sleety bits on the window. Temp stagnant at 2.6c and feeling increasingly raw.

2.4 C in East Clare - been raining since 7am with a stiff SW breeze.
No headache yet either (although a black eye as I opened the door into it first thing)

There is another band of snow pushing up from south according to this on Jan 3.
http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/gefs_cartes.php?code=0&ech=54&mode=2&runpara=0. It looks like the cold upper air will already be in place, unlike this time, for the approaching Atlantic front. One to watch.

Regarding the next 48 hrs, the GEFS ensemble expects South Galway/Clare/N Kerry/Limerick and North Tipp to see snow by mid-afternoon. Reports of snow in County Limerick seem to back this up. According to the GEFS model this snow becomes more widespread towards the midlands and east as the day goes on. Of course, snow on high ground from early afternoon onwards can be expected

And Corkonians, the Rebel County just show up as getting a pasting early Thursday if not before.

Wasn't expecting such a unique perspective on that ad. I have the romance Nacho libre, but I need the real thing. Fake snow spewing from a diesel stenching machine does not sound particularly poetic to me. :p

Last week the temperature difference between the city and where I am according to the car was around 2 degrees, cooler on the hills, just need to get a proper weather station sometime.

its pouring down in the city!

I shouldn't laugh, looks like you were trying to give yourself the headache to bring on the snow.

i agree it's not really a substitute for the real thing, it's the sentiment involved that appeals to me rather than the fake snow- well, depending on how snow-starved i was;)

anyway i think i should get back to talking about the weather:)

Not sure if I'm allowed post this for copyright reasons so mods please remove if that's the case.

This is the 12Z Low Level (below 10,000ft) aviation weather chart for today from the Met Briefing site.

It's divided into different areas (A, B, C, etc.) with the expected weather for each area in the table to the right.

We're in areas B and C (and D for the far south coast). It's mostly rain and sleet in area C, with very localised snow in some parts (high ground). D has heavy rain.

The 18Z chart will be issued around 2pm.
