while i largely agree with su campu, they did, as you point out, get it badly wrong last week for the northwest. as we got snow, resulting in two inches of snow, when showers were supposed to be confined to coastal counties of the west and north.
But you are in a coastal county...:)

Its all about precip intensity from this evening.

Heavier pulses will bring the temperature down considerable and give snow.

I would imagine there will be widespread reports of snow from around 8pm.

Good to hear some reports already in the west.

What we want is a heavy band of precip.

The band is drying out a little over eastern leinster, this is because it is hitting much dryer air and evaporating before it hits the ground.

This should be overridden through this evening.

However predicting where the heavier pulses will be this evening will be difficult, good pulses over southern Wales at the moment with snow to sea level reportedly lying.

yeah I thought I was gone mad - I was watching it in the air but nothing was hitting the glass table..... I actually went & put my specs on cos I thought I was starting a dizzy spell lol :D:D:D

Ill take them back off so lol lol

Heavy snow here. Starting to settle on garden furniture, railings etc. The ground temp is prob too warm for it to settle yet but the intensity of the snow might see to that.

Looking at met rainfall radar the rain is know heading north, am I right in thinking that when the NE winds come it will bring it back down, or is there another band of rain/snow to come?

Wow, just looked at the met office radar, theres plenty of precipitation over the country and its going nowhere.

if this turns to snow later it could be EPIC...

I knew it as soon as I was out of galway whiteout!
Well I'm coming back soon hope they can keep the m6 clear so I don't get trapped in rainy Dublin.
Expect the snow to stop as I get closer to galway.

drove from lonford to trim, back about a half hour, heavy rain and wind all the way with the very odd bit of sleet mixed in.
the winter wonderland from longford is all gone now.
back in trim it's a balmy 2.9c and dp 2.1 long way to go here before any snow

Just until things settle up here :D

Rain is turning to sleet here, The puddles on the ground look slightly slushy, This must turn to snow if it keeps up and starts getting colder :)

Nah deep down i am pretty much resigned to the fact that Cork isn't in the greatest position on earth for snow! Ah well it's good to see it in other parts of the country anyway:D

Penny apples? New one to me!!:D

Had a cup of hot coffee and a piece of fresh home -made date loaf so am restored to ....

Was so hoping we would escape this time.

It is the barest, bleakest and coldest place up here now with a banshee wind howling.

No warmth to be had anywhere, inside or out..

Lord, have mercy and keep all safe this bitter night.

aw well, could be worse, at least you still have internet access, so its not all penny apples just yet..
