    Its because there is no salt and grit, there are shortages all over the place. The reason is that the severe weather is worse than expected so they simply ran out.

    there was a truck load of it went up yesterday, was behind it in Blackpool, but there is a huge shortage of it, and will continue to be a shortage because the weather is forecasted to be so bad right up until the 6th of January
