boosting or enhancing phone signal

    Is there anything a layman can do to boost, enhance or otherwise collect a mobile phone signal locally?

    our relatives house has a low inconsistent signal strength, some areas of the house are better than other, is there anything that can be done by the end used to focus or enhance the signal ?

    anyone?

    Are femtocells not illegal here or can mess up other peoples signal?

    They are not main stream yet so their is going to be problems, but i dont think they are illegal, but i think comreg want to know their location if a network is going to be using them. Some networks in the US and uk already sell them. They can be restricted to certain handsets, they only handle 4 at a time
