Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tickets must be slow for the Gift Grub show.. Mario is Tonys guest.

15 mins of self congratulation. Cringeworthy stuff.

Was thinking the same thing myself. I've not seen his live show. Does anyone know if it's any good?

I'm so sick of 100 to 1. Its flaws have already been discussed on here, but the bit of blurb about the Ultimate Electric Picnic prize that Tony seems to recite every 10 fcuking minutes is really getting on my nerves now. Just when I had stopped finding Tony so annoying too. :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,087 ✭✭✭Clanket

Yep it has to be the worst radio competition ever. It's not exciting whatsoever, and yet they do their best to convince you it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,042 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

... and behind 56 is a CD. Whoopee!

And the X-Factor OTT music in the background. Pretty shocking competition ok.

Someone should tell Tony Fenton that Jay-Z has more than one song... and it's not 2009 anymore. :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,087 ✭✭✭Clanket

He does tend to play the same songs over and over. However, I quite like his choice of music most of the time so I can't really give him grief over that. If only he'd stop being such a big cheesy git.

"We've a text in from Mark who is heading on a bit of a road trip, travelling from Waterford to Galway. Oh god I'm so jealous. Galway.. Beautiful part of the country. Say hi to Tom in O'Dowds Bar for me. Stay safe on the road. Okay coming up next it's the Black Keeeeeeyyyyyss"

"On this day in 1990 Ireland qualified for their first World Cup and this song was number 1....."

"Hey Juuules thanks for the news, getting up to much this weekend if you know what I mean"

"I read a poll on the Internet about the saddest songs of all time, can you guess what the no 1 is?"

All in Tony's voice of course

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,087 ✭✭✭Clanket

He been saying "Get in therrrrre" a lot lately too

I can't believe after all this time he still gets flustered on-air when talking to a caller, especially when they call in for a quiz.

Tony: How's it going caller, you're taking part in our quiz today versus caller 2, what are you up to today?

Caller: I'm not great Tony, my dog has just been run over, he was the family pet for a long time...

Tony: Eh, oh, that's great, so you've got the god-forbids there, eh yeah?

Caller: Yeah Tony, their names are...

Tony: GREAT! Eh, oh, on line two we have, eh, ah, Stephen in Galway, hi Stephen! Enjoying the weather today?

Caller 2: Not really Tony, it's raining here.

Tony: Ok, so ah, this is how the quiz works...

He can't talk to people at all! :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,087 ✭✭✭Clanket

You've got to respect the fact that he's managed to make a fairly long career in the business when as you say, he can barely talk to people at times. I think a lot of people like him because of it. He's a normal Joe.

    Tones is one cool customer.

Did you hear him rhyme in his link just now?

"Twenty five to three .... Lykke Li"

I could visualise him punching the air in delight at his own coolness.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,087 ✭✭✭Clanket

He does fancy himself as a bit of a poet. His cockney ryhming is so cringey it's funny.

Just when I didn't think Phil Cawley was as bad as I thought...

he went and referred to himself in the third person..

    as "PC".

    Cringe.

I'm starting to think I was only warming to him was because of the skits he has been doing with Ray Foley. Come back Tony, all is forgiven!
Not really, you're just as bad. :p

On the bright side, Tones is to be awarded the freedom of Connemara!

Really think that since today fm are doing a shake up in presenters they should really consider moving tony. I think a weekend slot would work better for him, play the music he really likes. Give his slot to someone with a bit of life, bring back Ann Marie Kelly or alison Curtis, they always played great music, loved am Kelly's breakfast show.
Tony is just too boring and repetitive and is losing listeners. Give us a change before we change station.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 337 ✭✭TheTwiz

Tony said a few mins ago "It's gonna cost 80 blips" I love when he comes out with the slang.

Makes him super cool alright :pac:

    Really agree with you there.

Cut out all the bull of advertisements, competitions etc. and give him a music programme, with a bit of freedom. I do enjoy Jim O Neill on a Sunday, but if Tones had a well produced two hour slot at a similar time to Jim O Neill he would be well placed.

It could be focused on Irish acts, or anything really. He's quite a good interviewer, and very knowledgeable.

He could really make a good shot at a proper music programme. He's stuck in the 80s and in the mode of shout outs, phone in rubbish competitions and general cheesiness.

I was just caller 6 there during the competition!! Gutted! A girl answered the phone and said 'Today FM', before I could say anything like was I caller 9 or whatever, she said 'you're caller 6', I was all 'ok so, thanks a mill...' then when I hung up I was like **** that ****, ****! God-damn! ****!

    Ah well. Ha ha ha!

I don't call in for radio competitions but loads of boardsies on the radio forum seem to. We should put together a list of things one has to say if they manage to get on air. It'd help us indentify who's a boardsie too!

Imagine dropping in a bit of cockney slang with Tones - he'd love it!

Forgot to change to Newstalk and have Tony on. He's such a twat. His fake laugh is excruciating. Interview with your man from Kool and the gang was atrocious.

Please Today FM. Get rid of him

Anyone know why Tony is missing so many shows lately? Louise Duffy filling in today and that's after Phil 'the Power' Cawley filling in a good bit recently too.

That's what I thought, as much as I don't like his presenting style you wouldn't wish that on anyone. He's had to deal with a lot this last few years.

I met him twice. And whether you like his dj style or not, he was always very nice and genuine. Hope he gets thru this.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,967 ✭✭✭Synode

Terrible news. I grew to hate his cheesy style of DJ'ing but always thought he was a decent guy. Hopefully he fights it off again. All the best Tony

Good luck Tony, hope you beat it again.

Hope you make a full recovery Tony..... really appreciated your candidness in speaking out about your previous cancer scare......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,274 ✭✭✭_feedback_

I admired him for how he dealt with it last time and for the story he told on the Matt Cooper interview.. He basically spoke to or emailed back the hundreds of cancer sufferers who got in touch with them and even became friendly with some and helped them through their treatment. That was a great interview and portrayed him very well.

Seems to be a very nice and genuine guy behind the cheese.

That article shows that it is tough for these guys to be in good form and bubbly on air, like they haven't a care in the world. Imagine how he felt after being told it was back and still went on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,910 ✭✭✭✭RoundyMooney

Indeed yes. I wouldn't have been a fan of Tony's, even back in his Hotline days-but he always presents on air with a smile on his face, and a cheery disposition-and health aside, he has been through the wringer in the last few years.

You have to admire professionalism like that. Get well soon, Tony!

Tony's guest today... (Disney's) Bridgit Mendler. Jaysus, talk about worlds colliding.:pac:

He has been off air for the last few weeks again.. hope he's doing ok. Maybe he's in treatment.

    Get well soon Tony!

Just thought of Tony there, in the light of a discussion about one of his competitors.

    I hope he's doing well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭Chip Whitley

Tony off a good bit these days again. You'd obviously hope it isn't health-related.

Must say though, I'm enjoying Paul McLoone in the afternoon slot this week. I think his taste in music wouldn't be popular enough to port over directly from his own show, but he's a lot funnier than I had given him credit for, and I particularly liked the bit of banter he had with Alison Curtis when she produced the show on Tuesday.

Something different to Phil Cawley filling in for Tony anyway. Nothing against Phil btw.

Creepy Cawley. I don't mind him but he really struggles to keep the smut and innuendo under wraps!

Like Tim Kelly, I'd listen to Cawley with the best of intentions and then he'll say something unnecessary in the midst of it all...:(
