Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Seriously Jealous, Looks like an amazing place to photograph. Some great colours.

    Lovely Shots too

love #23. In photographic archival terms, a real gem (imho).

One thought when it comes to photographing the people - don't be afraid to get in close and get the amazing detail that will be in their character.

One other thought - try vary your compositions removing the central element from the centre of the frame. Take it off center, left or right, try different approaches and see what works.

One other (and final) thought from me. Try altering the angle at which you are shooting. Drop to your knees, lie on the ground, climb a tree (!).....

Good luck (and stay away from #15 :) )

Great shots, nice location. I love #9 best.
Just 1 question, why did you use 800 ISO on most of your shots?

Well Uganda is not really too sunny at the moment, it's the rainy season, a lot of clouds, and when you are in the forests it can be quite dark. So I tend to use a higher ISO setting.

Also, AncatDubh, about your advice on getting in close to photograph people, have you not seen the pic of the kids? (#19) Also, I have many photos there where the central element is not in the centre of the frame! For example #23 which you like.

Sound advice about altering the angle though!

    Yup, of course i did. Except I didn't explain myself properly - I meant close up as in;

In fact, if you check out the portraits by this flickr user (same as above) there are lots of great examples.

    Just a suggestion mind you.

The countries of the African continent are fabulously different and interesting. Usually a once in a life opportunity so enjoy.

Yeah I get you now, something like this?

And there's one more that I haven't uploaded yet. I don't like those extreme close ups though. Actually i do like them but a photo which has the full body is just as good in my opinion, like this:

    4229181362_9985affac7_o.jpg

But I will try and get some closer shots and see what happens, I see what you mean, they seem a bit more personal but I prefer full body shots of people doing things.

Wow, some really nice shots there. I assume you didn't get that close to the Gorillas? :)

    My favorites: 10,12 & 17.

Oh yeah, liking this one loads. Very nice large too. When you get back - it is a candidate for enlargement and wall hanging maybe? Good stuff.

i like #10 and #23. how did you get so close to that gorilla(#10)? i understand u must have used a zoom lens but still, they are so rare today!

and i agree with AnCatDubh. the shots look a bit the same...they are all ''safe'' shots. there's almost a shyness about them....on the other hand i know that it wasn't easy to get these images. i tried shooting some street photos in the Caribbean and i was met with anger...hope you're having more luck!

cheers and all the best in your adventures!!!

Yeah shot #10 was with a zoom lens., but the gorillas do come pretty close.I'm the guy with the beard:

And my photos have a shyness about them?!!!! What kind of photos would you class as not shy? How is sticking a camera into a Ugandan persons face shy?

Uganda is a photographers dream! I really look forward to going back there.

On the Gorilla's - wow! When we went, we got within 5 metres, and one or 2 came a little closer, that was it. and it's very dark in the jungle, so I feel your pain! I think I was at iso 800 or even 1600.

you've some nice shots, my preference would be for the closer ones but it's good to see the overall scene as well. If we all took the same shots, the world would be a very boring place! :-)

    Merv.
