    I don't think the op did or the op must have done pass. And in fairness, Irish has been fairly dumbed down nowadays for the ole leaving cert!:D

    Ag Mairchaíocht? I haven't been in the Conradh in a while, but I doubt he's going to jump on her back and gallop around. Ag Bualadh craiceann would be better, just so the girl knows exactly what he wants!

    So what do I say? I'm fair confused about the whole matter, would it be better if I just whipped it out for her and said: "An bhfuil cead agam...":D AH has killed my brain!

    Before "ride" was seen as a sort of innuendo it ment riding on something. So I thought it made sense to say "marchaíocht". "Bualadh Craiceann" sounds a little more Gaelgóir though, it would sound better.

    Doesn't matter - your arrogance could put somebody off trying to learn the language. I remember when I was learning in college people like you used to mock my mistakes. Only realised after that they weren't word perfect themselves.

    Everybody has to start somewhere - even you. Granted I could understand what you were trying to say you still have a bit to go as I pointed out. I hope nobody talks down to you like you did to the OP as you continue on your journey of knowledge.

    Seeing people who have Irish putting down people who are trying to learn hurts me more! I just want síochán i measc an phobail Ghaelaí! :D:D:D

    Please note Amendment Four of the UCD forum Charter:
    Amendment Four, in which the issue of languages is dealt with.
    Posting in languages other than english is perfectly allowed in the UCD forum, however if you make a post which contains any signifigant amount of another language, be it Gaeilge Nihongo or Ig-pay Atin-lay, must contain a translation into English.

    While we do apologise for any inconvenience incurred, if we can't read it, we don't know what's in there, and therefore we don't know if it breaches the rules laid out above.

    To conclude - If it's not in english, translate it to english and write the translation underneath or it will be removed.


    Anyone who posts again, in any language other than English, without a verbatim translation, will have their posts removed and will be banned.

    The rules of the Charter (which you all should have read already *fingerwag*) are clear on the subject, and they have been set out again here.
    If you break the rules after they have been explained (again) to you, you get a ban.

    That's the game.

    P.S. We have an Irish forum on Boards for all the Gaelgoirs to hang out it.

    And while I obviously mispoke when I said Irish was a foreign language, it is hard to view English as a foreign imposition anymore, when it is the first language of over 90% of the population.
