    Some of you may be interested in the following events that the Irish Met Society has planned for 2010. All events are free and open to the public:

    (includes a weather/climate day-conference with talks by Gerald Fleming and John Gibbons; a trip to Valentia Observatory which will include a tour of the facility and a lecture by Evelyn Cusack)

    9-10th October 2010
    Weekend trip to Valentia Observatory, Cahirciveen Co. Kerry to mark to 150th anniversary of the first weather observations there.

    Lectures:
    Evelyn Cusack – “Irish Weather”
    Keith Lambkin – “From the heights of weather balloons to the depths of earthquakes and everything in between”
    Mike Crean – “History of Valentia Observatory”
    Tours:
    A tour of the observatory including viewing a weather balloon launch, seismology equipment, ozone monitoring, phenology, geomagnetism. A tour to Valentia Island to see the site where the first weather observations were made and also to see the dinosaur footprints.
