We bought a new house in October and now that it's winter we have had a few problems: the fireplace cracked and we got onto developer and it was replaced: now the replacement has cracked  are we liable or is it the developer? We don't light huge fires or anything its a small sittingroom. Also our sitting room door won't stay shut with the draft in the front door unless its locked... anyone got any ideas??? Its really annoying! We did have the house checked by engineer etc when we moved in.

The drafty door could be fixed by adjusting the lock, chanced are the snib isn't making full contact with the hole in the door frame causing it to open when any pressure is applied, or you could buy a roll of draft excluder (its just a thin sponge that is stuck around the door frame, very easy to do yourself and can be bought in any hardware shop), that done the trick when my living room door was very drafty.
