Don't get too excited, the moon will just get a bit darker for a while. It'll be nothing like a full eclipse. Would be interesting if you had a telescope though!

By the way shower activity is expected to intensify this evening and towards 6am with some hefty snow showers likely and many areas along the eastern coast south of Balbriggan should be able to get an accumulation by dawn.

According to the GFS high res the wind has gone temporarilly slightly more Northery but will turn more Northeasterly again soon. So we are in with a shout. Im also right on the edge of the cloud train. On the upside the short period of clear sky can do no harm for ground temps.;)

Its so depressing here - so close yet so far. If it snows well all meetup for a snowball fight outside murrays at 12 :pac:

So far this "artic air" is useless at this end of the country.

I have a zero dewpoint under clear skies in the dark and 2 degree's and flat calm out in the middle of the countryside.

I've had colder evenings with a southwesterly on any clear night in a normal winter.

No doubt when or if showers come ashore here, they will be weak affairs and in their +1c dp's they will bring sleety rain.

    Severe winter me arse.
In january '87 in a proper cold NE source, the river avoca froze and there was 6 inches of snow on top of it's ice.
Now that was a proper winter.

I know,I know-it's very cold well inland and it will be -10 or lower in the west but it's a faux cold [at this moment in time] as the slightest whiff of wind of the atlantic and it will rain on low ground.

    Thats my assessment so far.
    It better change.
And yes this is a rant.

Oh and did I mention it's flat calm so showers will be under pressure to come in...

Flat calm = colder. Your going to get plenty of heavy snow showers.

yeah Villian but I'll believe it when I see it.
Theres not even a leaf stirring here and it can't even make a frost.....never mind blow in showers.

I have major doubts about that precip chart.

Faux cold or not, it is still cold BB. Upper temps really don't matter to those who have to experience it on the ground (although they are now below -5c) But I understand where you are coming from.

I think he's right, along with the eagle the other night.
Tisn't freezing cold we seek it's snow, and we look worlds away from any decent snow event.
Infact it's looking possible we might go through a record breaking cold spell in severity and duration without a proper snowfall:mad:

I'm 100% in agreement with his rant. I'm on the verge here myself. Expect drunken rant later on when I get back from the celebrations if things don't pick up.

Edit: Those showers coming in now are missing me by about 1km to the south. Fabulous.
Edit2: Sorry about the IMBY perspective, but c'mon!

Showers really are pepping up on the radar, my only complaint is that they are not making this far inland - yet hopefully.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

I am still not overly convinced it is record breaking cold spell yet, but we will see when the Met Eireann monthly summary is issued in the new year.
