Fairly dry in Roscommon. Temperature is dropping though. Would say the thaw in Athlone town almost removed all the snow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,115 ✭✭✭Takeshi_Kovacs

Slight bit of a thaw in parts of the county here today, not much though as there is still a lot of lying snow. A lot of places saw snow last night as well, there was snow on a good few beachs down to the waterline, even some on sand bank out in Tralee bay. Looks like it's all going to be washed away tonight/tomorrow though

Main roads are fine but secondary roads are now a mixture of ice slush and snow. Some roads are worse then others. Lough Ree is still frozen over but the ice is breaking resembles pack ice which has frozen together again. Reckon that the thaw is on but that there is still a lot of danger on the roads. The roof of my house is covered in snow. Its forecast to stop around midnight so if by then its cold enough and it all freezes it will be tricky.

Still a bit of frozen slush and ice lying in parts here. Currently brightish with the odd watery sunny break. 3.4c /93%RH / 995.9mb Steady / 5mph ESE

    Foggy morning. 1.8C

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,616 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

    Currently -0.8°C
Snow outside is like concrete. I barely sink into it when walking accross.
The slush in ploughed areas has frozen back to hard ice again and is extremely slippy and makes a loud crunching noise when you try to walk over it.
I dare not move the car.

    Still somewhat foggy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,550 ✭✭✭Min

Current conditions, very little thaw, sunny, still a lot of snow here with snow on the road along with frozen slush where tractors, 4 wheel drives and footprints went.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,634 ✭✭✭✭Graces7

Still many inches of lying snow, but it is not the same to walk on. Feels unstable.

The road is showing tarmac. Still ice though.

Looking out, the visible snowline is rising; still well below here.

Sun now... still very chilly. Thick freezing fog early on.

All the snow is melting here in Roscommon, driving home today took nearly two hours instead of normal one despite weather guys saying there would be no frost. In a big way I'm glad to see the back of the cold. The snow was nice, nothing like 82 but in the end it lasted a similar amount of time, caused lakes to freeze and reminded us that nature is boss.

Raining heavily in Tramore with gusts picking up.. Not as strong as a couple of days ago, but looking that way. Preferred the cold snap tbh.

Hear Roscommon got hit badly, friend of mine can't get down until it clears up. Sunday she plans on leaving and hoping for good conditions.

A typical Irish winters morning that we'd all gotten used in last 15 years.

The road is very wet with pools of water increasing.

Very windy, heavy rain and what feels like an almost balmy 9c.

If it's not lack of water it's too much :(
