Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

recharging

    Do you have to wait till a car battery is completely or almost completely dead before recharging as with a laptop battery.

    This is a spare battery not in car but used to jump a few times

    No Lead acid batteries can be float charged, they don't need to be empty. This is exactly how they are charged in your car by the alternator, every day.

    That is totally not how you should charge a (modern) Lithium based laptop battery, infact you will screw it up if you do that.
    Extreme low voltage must also be prevented. The safety circuit is designed to cut off the current path if the battery is inadvertently discharged below 2.50V/cell. At this voltage, most circuits render the battery unserviceable and a recharge on a regular charger is not possible.
    There are several safeguards to prevent excessive discharge.

    I used to work for a multimedia hardware vendor and customers letting their units discharge (not laptops, same battery type though) completely was flipping the safety circuit and preventing them from being charged up properly again.

    Please do not intentionally run down the battery in any IT product you have bought in the last 5years!

    A lead acid battery should never be allowed to go flat, or even low, it drastically affects the battery life.
