Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Filter choices photographing icy city (land) scapes

Preamble, This is about colour film photography and what filters to use.

I am planning to wander around tomorrow and shot some of the frozen urban landscape. I noticed lots of lovely ice shots today but have a yearning to play with filters too.

    200ASA colour film:

    My current thinking is:
1: a circular polariser initially to get the ice crystal formations jumping out.
Then I have the following fun options. (two stops gone a begging)

Light and dark blue solid filters (1/2 or 2 stops)
Light & dark Blue Graduated Filters (1/2 or 2 stops)

This should as far as I know make everything sharp blues and whites ?

Am I on the right track.... not much information on net as most is digital based but I know the 'collective' always has some information in it's hive mind.

Are you using colour neg or slide? If I was shooting snow, I'd go for Provia 400
It will balance the whites nicely as long as you overexpose by about 2/3rds of stop.
As for filters, I'd just go with ND grads and a polariser, but have never actually used them in the snow, as I find the snow is usually metering about the same as the sky.
