Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We are off to Paris for a long weekend next week and am looking for suggestions for something different to do in Paris. We have been there a few times in the past and have seen all the mainstream/major sights.

Any suggestions of something different to see/do please?

I'm not too sure of your interests but there is always one more specialist museum of gallery to visit.

A website that might be helpful
    http://www.paris.fr/portail/accueil/Portal.lut?page_id=1
    English page of paris.fr website
    http://www.paris.fr/portail/english/Portal.lut?page_id=8118

(English page I showed may not be great but check the links in French on the left and then try English option it might give more relevant info.)

Le Defense is worth a trip. At daytime. Sterile, but impressive.

Something you could try is the Catacombs in Denfert-Rochereau in Montparnasse. The self tour takes about 45-60 minutes and its a 2 kilometre walk underground. Its interesting, and something different.

Another thing you could try would be the Tour of the Sewers. Haven't been myself, but have to admit, its kinda cool!!

As I said, sorry its late, but could help someone else out!! :D

When I go to Paris, I normally stay in the Montparnasse area, but this is not central for all the sites.

Just to let you know that tourists hotels are just that. Nothing fancy. Rooms will be a lot smaller than here and costs tend to get higher in the centre.

There are a good few threads on Paris here, so maybe do a search and see what pthers have to say!!

Was thinking of booking a weekend in Paris sometime in March, cheapest Flights I can find are approx 100 euro.
Anyone know of anything cheaper for flights & reasonable accommodation?
    Thanks

You can try airninja.com, not really a "cheapest flight" place but it shows you what line flies from where to where.

Travellerspoint is good for cheap and cheerful acc.

There's an exhibition on the 1910 Paris flooding with loads of impressive pictures on currently and pretty sure it will be going on till March 28th.

Think it's 4€ full price and 2€ for children and students. I managed to get a 2€ entry despite not being able to show any proff of student status...

Adress : Galerie des bibliothèques-Ville de Paris
    22, rue Malher

    75004-Paris
    Métro : St-Paul

Open tuesday to sunday 1 pm to 7pm
    Till 9pm on thursdays

And here's a nice recent book by an American historian to put you in the know : http://parisunderwater.blogspot.com/

Official website, the exhibition is short and could be a stop in a stroll in a nice Parisian area because the area is kinda cool : http://www.inondation1910.paris.fr/

Off to Paris thurs for the 4th time.. must say love the place.. a place i always checkout is le place de pluce (i think!!) nearest metro port de clignancourt as far as i know its the biggest street market in the world you can get everything there especially clothes (nike, adidas, reebok and the like), ethnic stuff and the usual market stuff.. great place to haggle.. if its your thing you will know straight away but make sure to set aside at least a half a day.. if its not your thing you will know straight away..

ive done some of the usual sites but i think they are so impressive they are all worth at least a second look.. hopefully this time i will get inside a museum (the lourve)...

i was thinking of going to the top of mantparnasse tower this time to get pics of paris with the eiffel tower in them.. anyone ever been up montparnasse?

If you are brave enough and the weather is suitable, then definitely get the Paris bikes out. We were there in June last year and found it a great way to see the city - especially at nighttime when the traffic is almost non existant. We got bikes out at 4am on the way back from a night out and cycled around until 6am, watching the sunrise over the city. Very romantic for couples also!
