Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

At a local athletics meet today in laois and was set up early at the finish line ,when a local paper photographer stood right in front of me to set himself up, when i challenged him he replied "well im getting paid to be here your not" ,rather than cause a fuss or send for paramedics i moved to one side, just wondering if this is common place or are these "paid photographers" scared of competition, i understand it may well be their main source of income but is rudeness a part of the job spec....

you should have just told him you were being paid ...... tell him some of the parents or some of the clubs ordered you to cover their kids.... and then just stand up next to him.... real close....frighten the sh1te out of him.

getting paid to cover an event doesnt give you automatic right to piss other photographers off - I've given out to other photographers for getting in the way (and I've been given out to for getting in the way).....at least you know one thing.... you picked the best spot to get the best pics.

hows that new 300mm working out for ya.

oh... I could think of sooo many things you should have done.... if you were under no pressure to get any pics you could have shadowed him for 20-30mins .... freaks most photographers out.

That is just plain rude. You had as much right to be there as he did, the fact he was getting paid makes little difference to anyone but him. In fact if he was being paid he should have been the one to arrive early to secure the position.

It would be a different matter if he had the photographic rights to the event. It still would not excuse being rude though. To retaliate would just lower yourself to his level, no matter how tempting it may have been.

They can leave a nasty bruise just behind the ear of the dick in front;)

Indeed it does :D:D, and you should also start asking questions about exposure and his gear.

yeah that 300 is nice would have made a nice dent in yer mans head alrite but maybe i,ll wait for when i get the 600 and wipe out the "competition"altogether,...i was covering the event for a club who asked me to attend and i was also getting paid but didn,t feel it neccasary to broadcast the fact ,have met this chap at a few events before so plan is next time is to wear an "official photographer" bib and that should get a reaction

I would have stood in front of the other photographer, TBH.

I have already replied "You are paid to act like an idiot?" - I was glad he had more gear that slowed him down before I ran to safety. But it was worth it :D
And yes, it was many years ago in my homeland.

OP, you will hear of this kinda cr*p happening regularly. In the vast majority of cases you have every bit as much a right as they will have.

Having been through it you are now ready for if it happens again somewhere that you are.

Think out your strategy / response in advance and be prepared as it does happen.

A small minority of photographers behave like this. I've done some wedding videos/DVDs for family and friends down through the years and have had this done to me. There are two local pros in particular who are always at it. But, as I said, they are in the minority.
