Updating the resources page
-
03-01-2010 11:29pmThe resources page at the top of this forum is invaluable but given that it was started 7 years ago - I think it should be revamped
It's quite cluttered and there is a lot of websites gone and a lot overlooked.
I think that it needs to be started afresh and perhaps categorised in just one post and when people want to add a link they just contact a moderator
also - I think that it should be maybe slightly different - maybe perhaps act a bit similar to GCN listings - ie - a lot of groups are not actually advertised online but advertised in GCN listings
I would be willing to do some reseach for thisIt was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The current resources/links page is cumbersome and cluttered with lots of dead links. I think the thread should only have 2 posts - 1 with safety advice and one with a range of links - would anyone like to help me update it?

Ah, but a joke is timeless. The point is, however, still valid. Maybe I should've bolded the word 'east' in the original quote. It was a typo, when the intention was to say 'easy to navigate'.0

resources are great but only if you can find them,
this is the inherent limitation of presenting them in a thread format,
Is there a way round this? any other options available?
If not can they be made more searchable perhaps through maybe main titles being pre defined menu category options only then sub titles user defined ?0 -
Ok - going to try and clean up the resources thread. Anyone want to help?

The world is far from perfect and unfortunately we have to give out warnings about Predators.
Make no mistake anywhere where kids post there will be predators especially in places that are outlets for kids and teens with sexuality issues.
There are people out there who will try and take advantage of in experienced kids so please be careful and read this:
The following is an article that was posted on: Gay and Lesbian Youth Northern Ireland
More and more people in Ireland and the UK are getting connected to the net, and more and more gay, lesbian & bisexual people are connecting via the net. As gay chat rooms, personals and classifieds become a popular means of meeting other people, we offer this advice on staying safe both on and offline.
When using the chat rooms, message boards or personals please be careful.
* Do not give out your full name, personal phone number or address.
* Don't agree to meet anywhere if you feel you are at risk.
* Young people may especially feel inclined to meet other men or women from the net particularly if they don't know other gay/bi people. Consider joining a youth/social group to make new friends.
* Keep your primary email address private. Use your primary email address ONLY for people you know and trust. Get a free e-mail address from Hotmail or Yahoo for chatting online and don't use your full name.
* Be very cautious about putting any pictures of yourself online anywhere, or allowing anyone else (relatives, schools, dance academies, sports associations) to publish any photos.
If you do decide to meet someone you've met online:
* Make it clear to the person why you're meeting them! If it's only for coffee and a chat, make sure they know that this is all that's going to happen.
* Meet the person in a busy place, e.g. the centre of town, a bar or café. Don't go to the person's house and never give him/her your address.
* Tell someone where you are going and what time you will be home. If you keep a personal diary, write down exactly where you are going and who you are going to meet.
* Many young people who have just "come out" may be eager to have a sexual relationship with another person. Don't feel rushed or pressured into doing anything you don't want to. It is right to say no! If you do have sex, remember to have safer sex!

You are right in saying that the chance of one woman passing HIV to another during sex is low, however low risk is not no risk.
With regards to other STI's such a chlamydia, syphillis (apologies for my bogey spelling), HPV, etc. they can all be passed from woman to woman. There is not one STI which cannot be passed between women.
