Snow update: Have had a good snow fall here in Dooradoyle, Limerick for the last half an hour. Hope it continues!

SA, Oh yeah i know nothing is set in stone but it's looking good all the same, I don't feel let down that much when we get nothing so i can ramp myself up no end with no regrets! :pac:

My temp has just hit 1c now and a DP of -0.9c, should I be concerned about this gradual rise? (.5c in an hour).

Seems to be rain/sleet in the west of NI but fallin as snow to the east.

Just to note that with the loss of the Shannon radar the UKMO radar underplays what ppn there is over the rest of Ireland (with the exception of NI).

I'd say the most it looks like giving is 2 or 3cm's in the North

No, As far as i know it's just the warm air coming in ahead of the front. As the front passes over and the cold air comes behind your temps will drop again.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Dont worry im here showers currently seem to be of sleet and no the showers are not of snow in eastern ni that patch of snow that is falling is over the glens of antrim were it is HIGH up. The main band hasnt even reached glasgow yet.....

Must have had another snow shower in the past hour, as there is more snow dusting the ground here. Can see the stars now so possibly that's it until that front makes it way here...hopefully doesn't rain or sleet it, I couldn't take it if it does....;)

don't. there should be snow later once the front passes. it's just annoying that we have to start off with rain and that everytime, despite being in a sustained cold spell, there has been a chance of more organised precipitation conditions have not worked in our favour so far.

No sign of snow in Kilkenny at the moment.
As far as I know, there hasnt been a proper covering of snow ( i.e. lasted more than a few hours) here in between 10 and 15 years!!!
I still have some hope though . . .:)

Yes but its not got the shannon radar either working on it, so any percip in the west here is not being picked up

Summary
Staying very cold

December was a particularly cold month with temperatures below average in most areas. It now looks as though much of January will continue in the same vein with harsh frosts and further heavy snowfalls.

Monday 4 January 2010 to Sunday 10 January 2010
More snow

Areas of sleet and snow will drift southwards across the UK during the first part of the week. At first, the most significant snowfalls are likely to be in Scotland and over the higher ground of northern England.

However, later in the week, the risk for more prolonged, heavy snowfall lies across many eastern and southeastern parts of the UK so we can expect some problems here with significant accumulations of snow likely to lead to some disruption.

Throughout the week, temperatures will remain well below the seasonal average with severe night frosts and daytime highs often remaining below freezing. Ice will continue to be a major hazard anywhere that rain, sleet or snow has fallen.

On the plus side, when it is not snowing, the air will be clean and clear with bright sunny spells, especially in more western areas.

Cold but often dry

High pressure to the west of the UK will maintain the northerly winds and intense cold for much of this period.

Some further snow showers can be expected, again mainly in northern and eastern areas but many inland areas are likely to remain mostly dry, with the best sunshine towards the west.

Monday 18 January 2010 to Sunday 31 January 2010
Little change at first

It will remain cold for the rest of January although there is a hint that temperatures may recover slightly towards the south and west eventually.

The weather will turn increasingly unsettled which may result in some further prolonged snowfalls - the west being more at risk during this time, although as temperatures pick up, southern parts could be more likely to see rain towards the end of the month.

I think the general concensus amoung the pro's was to disregard the BBC's forecast for Ireland as they probably dont put a whole lot of time into forecasting for the Republic, and why would they?

Yeah?! Jeez, here in Carlow town I had snow for the best part of a week, about 4" fell on the first fall which was then topped up by passing showers over the following days.

Rained here to a while ago, and for the first time in about 3 weeks, it didn't freeze straight away, this prompted me to turn on the car for a temp reading -0.5c.
Sky is foggy looking so might be more rain !!! but calm night out, and if it has to rain before i get ?cms of snow then so be it.. lol

is the next chart due after pubrun??? or sooner? really interested to see what happened the beedy little eye... well more of a Dali type comma, but remaining ever optimistic

Edit: and there is the chart, while i was asking the question lol...timing or what.... mostly or what i know i know...lol

This is getting to exciting now, going to take a break and watch "the hustle" on bbc 1. then i'll be back! Hopefully Owenc will have some good news.

Bad news here is temps are slowly rising, was 1.1c and hour ago, now 2.1c.

yeah, there was snow all around south kilkenny, Even kilkenny city had some and it avoided me!!!
