Snowed a wee snow shower a while ago here ,all the snow from yesturday still here frozen solid, I see met eireann said for tonight
Wintry showers of sleet and snow will persist tonight in coastal regions of Ulster

    Didnt expect that :)

That batch of snow that they think might hit or miss us tomorrow is mentioned too

    Thursday

There's a risk of more persistent sleet and snow pushing in over west Ulster and Connacht in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 0 to +4 degrees.

For whats its worth, not much IMO!!

UKMO meso has that front moving through the bulk of the country tomorrow afternoon, sleet/rain on western coasts, snow inland.

If anything the area of showers approaching from the northeast of England is dying yes, but may just provide increased Energy in the north Irish sea for perhaps a few more widespread snow showers in the east, perhaps is the word.

Drove from Castleknock to Dundrum and nothing except maybe 10 flakes fell last night i would think, the roads were the best they have been for the last 3 days.

As expected, not a single snow flake Waterford! :pac:

-2c and clear cold skies this morning.

I cannot believe we are having a once in a lifetime (in terms of length) cold spell and it looks like were not going to get even a half decent nationwide snow event.

I've been reading through the thread and various weather websites appartantly we're going to have consistent sleet and snow showers through the morning and into the afternoon.

Has anyone started to see snow yet?

I've been looking at the IR images and it looks like the snow will hit further south?

    Opinions please!

  • Registered Users Posts: 366 ✭✭doccy

The funny thing is it'll only snow when we least expect it too. Wait and see, the third week of march and with no warning BLIZZARDS

Light snow and graupel here atm. Wind has gone to NW here so has dropped temp now to 0.7c.

Dublin AP reporting sleet at 0900 at -1c DP -5c - strange given those stats.

Incredible , just incredible is how i would describe it outside.
The snow is pure power, and unlike the wet snow before which stuck to surfaces its just blowing around.
In the fields any gusts of wind blow snow up in a snow/dust type storm, really weird to see.
Hard to get an estimate of depth but I'd estimate at least 15 cm with huge drifts everywhere. Its impossible to tell where the road ends and the field begins

The local farmer tried clearing the road but has given up. As soon as he ploughs the road, maybe 15 mins later the wind blows snow over the road again. Whats worse is the tractor wheels are just compacting the snow and its zero grip on that stuff.
I've never seen such powery light snow in my life, amazing.

Its still snowing on and off, really powdery small flakes. My little Fabia is going nowhere today, hmm, will have to make a marathon trek to roundwood later for alcohol methinks :D

Well I got absolutely nothing in Celbridge last night, any activity remained to my southeast. I had expected winds to swing around to a more northeasterly direction, bringing the activity north, but it never happened. It may be doing so snow, but I think anyone west and north of Dublin is in last chance saloon today for seeing any snow, as I don't expect any more after today. Pressure builds from the northwest, stability increases, Irish Sea activity becomes more and more surpressed, and with low-mid level temperatures stabilising, anything forming will be more of a rain/sleety mix.

    Damn it.

Anyway, here are the 05Z TAFs (valid 6am today to 6am tomorrow), with snow forecasts written in red.

Had that type of snow here too the other night SC - pointless trying to make snowballs! :)

Looking at 0900 radar seems to be a more organised streamer getting together now from the Co. Down coast to Dublin.

jsut looking at the snow they got in all the way across the uk. WOW

Its amazing how it can cover that entire area - but can't travel that little bit further west to get us...

    Frustrating at this stage

snow flurries here now in West Dublin..

Terenure. Hail shows now. Roads will get compacted by cars and side roads to become slightly more lethal.

Just landed in college here in Aungier st.

Had a lovely snow shower while walking down Camden Street there 25 mins ago:)

Any news on how the Killybegs area of Donegal faired out last night?

I am actually so glad that I didn't go home now, thing is though where's the snow about Harolds Cross....Could we be optomistic about this afternoon???:D
