I am with VHI Family plan B...

Find it so confusing and worrying especially if you have to claim for something and you have missed the small print somewhere..People worry about the changeover from one company to the next in case they have missed out something..cheers guys for the replies..:)

Hi Pink. Can you double check the plan name on your membership card or documents? There's a couple of different variations of Plan B and a couple of different variations of Family Plan.

Regarding claiming, it's always a good idea to ring the insurer, no matter who they are, before starting treatment. If it's related to a procedure in hospital or a consultant's room, they'll need the hospital's name, the consultant's name and ideally the "procedure code". The consultant or their secretary should be able to give this to you. The insurer might ask you a few more questions about the condition and symptoms, but they should be able to give you an indication of whether or not it's covered. It might be hard for them to definitively say it is covered, because it ultimately depends on the information the consultant gives on the claim form, but you'll have a good indication at any rate.

If it's an out-patient visits to a doctor, physiotherapists, scan, alternative therapists etc, give the insurer a quick call to see what the cover offers and if your particular person is covered.

This might be covered in the insurer's documentation as well, so have a look to see if there's any simple English explanation as to what to do. If not, never be afraid to call them.
