    All,

I am looking to buy a knife set. I have seen a good few around town but I am not sure on the quality. I have read that Global knives have sold some naming rights so they are not what they used to be. Just wondering if anyone has any experience on a set they might have themselves...

I've up to 150E to spend....

    cheers....

There's a whole thread dedicated to knife buying here.

How about buying individual knives rather than a set?

You may not need more than a large chef knife, a bread knife, and a paring knife?

Look around online for Victorinox, Mora kitchen knives, Taylors Eye Witness, Sabatier, Wusthoff, Henkels etc.

I like carbon steel but it does patinate (discolour) and can leave a taste on food. Most stainless steel used in kitchen knives is 420 series, tends to be softer than Japanese blades so easier to sharpen, but needs touching up more often.

Have a look in TK Maxx, they often have good deals.

If you need a boning, filet, carver, set of steak knives you could add them later?

For knife porn have a look on japanese Chef knives .com , mind your wallet though! :D

Get somebody preferably a butcher or chef to show you how to sharpen your knives because no matter how much your knives cost if you don't sharpen them in the correct manner they will be worthless.

try these guys http://www.mcdonnells.ie. I bought a set of knives from them recently. They're professional sets but are good value.
