A question for all the experts here - water froze in the attic overnight and while the cold tap in the bathroom had no water we were getting trickles of hot water from cold tap and into toilet when flushed - can someone expalin what happened? Does this need investigating?

Have you a mono type tap in bathroom, two taps one spout?

not mono tap, there are two seperate taps on basin and hot water trickled out cold tap in basin and also into toilet cistern in upstairs bathroom. Could we have had back syphoning or something?

No idea from here, would have to see house, bathrooms, en suites, hot press etc. Strange all the same, something like that happens when pipes are crossed etc, in your case, they way you've described, its not something that happens often.

You could have some form of back siphon but where it could happen, I've no idea. It could be a case where plumbing cold pipes are close to heating pipes somewhere underground, in wall, anywhere, the cold water lying in pipe might have been heated up by heating pipes.
