Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So I see on here that you can put windows 7 on any netbook using a usb stick.

My question is, when you prepare the flash drive to become a bootable flash drive, does that render the drive useless thereafter or can I delete the files afterwards and use the flash drive as normal.

ie. I have a 250gb external hard drive, can I use this as the bootable flash?

    Thanks in advance.

yes you can reuse the usb key afterwards

if all else fails just format it / mark the partition as inactive / overwrite the boot sector

and yes you can use the HDD too

windows isn't designed to run from removable drives, most other OS's will run fine from them

surly your 250gig can be both i.e. a "bootable" external hard drive, might come in handy if you ever need to install 7 again

    .

In theory yes you can, but it would take forever to get it into a bootable flash form.

Best option would be to use a 4 or 8 GB stick, if you don't have one they are cheap in Tesco. Then you could always keep it in a desk drawer if you ever needed it again.

I wrote an article on how to do this a while back when I got my netbook (for XP in my case, but the same steps apply)

In answer to your query, no, this will not render the flash useless, you can just format it again using the windows format utility.
