An small disc grinder doing serious work cutting metal seems to have overheated after being used for 5 minutes, gave off fumes + now does not work. Is the motor burnt out ? Thanks in advice for any replies.

Drop it into a hire shop, bushes might need replacing, happens a lot with hand power tools, ask them to have a quick look at it, if its not bushes, prob best bin it. Cheap brands although they work good, when they stop working they are prob past fixing. If grinder is a good make like Makita, Dewalt, Bosh etc hire shop should be able to get it running again for buttons, had to replace drill bushes before, cost under 20 euro.
