    Hi,
I have to repeat an engineering exam but not sure if i'm ready for it!
It is my first repeat(obviously 2nd time doing paper). If I fail this is that me finished or do I get a 2nd repeat?
    Thanks,
    Penny

3 strikes system. You can repeat it again in the summer if you fail.

Does this "rule" apply across every third level college or
just DIT? Surely someone repeating an exam five times
generates a sum of money from DIT?

Or if you fail the last attempt, are you banished from
DIT, sent down to trinity, hung, and buried in a british
coffin? Having a college place is not like having a job.

Each college as their own rules. Also the rules may differ for different subjects (depending on how 'criticial' the subject is deemed to be). DIT used to have a limit on the number of attempts but that seems to have been taken out of the latest version of the regulations (http://www.dit.ie/services/academicregistrar/student-assessment-regulations/general/) so i'm not sure if its an indefinite number of attempts now. The programme document is probably the best place to look.

In DIT you have 4 attempts at any exam. Fail the 4th and you may not be able to sit that exam for a number of years.

If you are a first year for example, it could go something like this:

1st year Summer maths - Fail
1st Year September Maths - Fail

If it is just one, you may be allowed to carry it into 2nd year.

2nd year - 3rd attempt at summer paper = fail
2nd year setpember - 4th attampt at maths paper = better pass

    are these the same fails?

They will be fails in the same subject / course year.

    Example

    4th Year Maths - 2008 Semester 1
    4th year maths - 2008 Semester 1 repeats
    4th year maths - 2009 semester 1
    4th year maths - 2009 semester 1 repeats

    Is that any clearer?
