My brother is starting a new job in Belfast next month and wants advice on where to live. Its a minimum wage job so no place too fancy but a fairly central location at the same time. Can anyone give any advice?

www.daft.ie has a section on Belfast.
    Local papers.
    What people think
He should look to live close to work as the morning traffic can be a problem otherwise. Once he gets comfy in the city he could move again.

Whereabouts is his job? Does he have a car?

Its on Clifton Street. He doesnt have a car.
Are there any areas that should be avoided or is that all in the past?

If you mean nationalist/prod areas that's mostly in the past.
As a "free stater" he will get some slagging but that's the way it is everywhere, nothing to be concerned about.
There's bad and good streets everywhere. Pick a few houses in the centre and go and have a look at the houses and the surrounding streets, preferably in the evening. You should get the "feel" for the place quickly.

    BT1, 14, 15 should be good.

    Massive map with postcodes.

Cool, I'll get him to wear his Freestate uniform then.

We were just looking at daft there and the prices are quite cheap for central locations.

If you can, take a few trips up in advance and go out and ask people about where to live.
Take in the sights, it's a brilliant city!

    Also try www.spareroom.co.uk and http://belfast.gumtree.com/.

If he doesn't want to share then www.propertynews.com is good for rentals, but it would be at least £300 for a 1-bed so might be out of his price range.

    Regardless, welcome to Belfast :D

if his jobs in clifton street you might want to try the antrim road area, would be closer than central Belfast
