Horslips are the default winners of Best Irish Live Performance, but they must have decided to share with the other children, and politely offered it to the other contestants to fight it out.

When can you vote for this? Why are there non-voting categories?

I think the public should have some say in who's nominated, it might not be quite so samey then?

They have nonvoting for international categories because they just give the award to whoever will show up. Hence why Pixie Lott will win best International Female.

every band in ireland seems to be in the 'best new artist' longlist. They just threw in all the entries regardless (well, thats what it looks like)

Jesus, seems like that lot (performing) are going to get the award just for being there...

You're right of course. We were nominated and although it's nice to get a nod (even along with everyone else), it's also a bit maddening. Either you have promise or you don't - getting thousands of your mates to vote for you shouldn't come into this at all. As if the Meteor Awards weren't taking the p!ss enough already....

Ah well, I supppose you should never look a gift horse in the mouth. :pac:
Still, it'd be nice to know, realistically, which bands are 'rated' by the industry and not the ones either there because Hot Press said so or cos people who know them, and nothing about their music, know how to work an online poll.

Geeze, hope that doesn't sound too bitter and twisted :D:D

I lol'd heartily at the suggestion that the coronas should be nominated for any award... plus why the **** is a best of album (snow patrol)up for an award? why wasn't codes album recognized for what it was: one of the best irish debuts of the last 10 years? where the hell was the recognition for Imelda May? She's only bleedin play with jeff beck...
